Family and Background[edit]

Alura Rathyn's parents were part of a Bajoran Resistance cell during the Cardassian Occupation. Her father was killed during a raid on a forced labor camp when she was six years old. Her mother, an accomplished pilot and technician, taught the precocious Alura about the inner-workings of ship systems. Alura's mother was also half-Cardassian, the result of an unfortunate encounter with a drunken soldier. The Cardassians left Bajor when Alura was fourteen. Her mother, Elanu, put her technical skills to work on DS9 under the authority of the Starfleet officer Miles O'Brien. On Stardate 2403.11.21, the middle-aged Alura was the victim of a transporter accident. While visiting the Bajoran starbase where she'd lived with her mother as a young woman, a power fluctuation corrupted her transporter pattern during beaming. The young transporter officer on duty, found a former pattern stored in the buffer logs and used the file to rebuild Alura's pattern. The middle-aged Bajoran woman materialized as a young version of herself.
