The Hessth are a race of reptilian origin found in the Beta quadrant and as yet undiscovered by the Federation. The Hessth are enemies of the Waagoshin and are caught in a stalemate along their lengthy frontier with the fox-like race.
They are technologically inferior to the Waagoshin but their strength lies in their numbers, Hessth use wave tactics , typically outnumbering enemy vessels by a factor of ten to one and will use suicide attacks to drive off invaders.
They are highly suspicious and insular, any contact will normally end in attack or withdrawal depending on the number of ships encountered. Communications with the Hessth are rare and will only take place in unusual circumstances.
Hessth ships are typically small and light, having light shielding and with a medium weapon strength, not enough to take out a heavily shielded and armed opponent unless using numerical superiority.
The Hessth were first mentioned in the USS Hades Mission: A Rule of Conscience.
