Description of The MAKO Artificial Intelligence Computer System

The MAKO Artificial Intelligence Computer System Originally developed by a design team from Memory Alpha in conjunction with the Bynar Institute, (Stardate 2376.07.09) for inclusion in the Mako Fighter v. I and v.II the Artificial Intelligence Computer System (known as the AI) assists the pilot in all areas of space flight / combat. The initial duotronics programming of the AI was two-fold - the constant status monitoring of both pilot and craft, and assistance with the holographic targeting heads-up display (HUD) via the Optical Data Network (ODN). This enables the pilot to track up to 16 multiple targets at any time (one target for each missile). The AI / LCARS automatically lays out and prioritises all of the data to be presented in an easy to understand layout..

With the introduction of the Mako v.III (Stardate 2401.03.17) the AI was given additional features with the Pilot Astro-Navigation Preferencing System (PANPS). This enables both AI and pilot to form a symbiotic relationship so that the AI will automatically use its knowledge of the pilot's preferences (display of specific data and systems - flight / weapons / attack / maneuvers etc.) in order to help the pilot in executing a plan of action. This information is constantly transmitted to the Squadron's Flight AI and has proven to be of inestimable value to the FSCO and CONN officer's in mission planning and Squadron tactics. In addition, the AI's were made to be interchangeable - so that the pilot's information modules, system modules and operational modules could easily be transferred between Mako's and the Federation LCARS. A further feature of AI's symbiotic relationship is that if the pilot should be hurt during a mission, the AI will recognize this and navigate a course to the safest and nearest location, taking whatever means necessary to ensure the survival of the wounded pilot. Another feature of the v.III addition was that of an Adaptive Heuristic Database(AHD) - enabling the AI to develop a personality. This assists the pilot, AI / Mako to perform uniquely as a co-operative unit.

By stardate 2404.03.01 the standard Iconic Display Console (IDC) was integrated into the AI. This highly sophisticated computer interface system permits the pilot to mind-link directly to the computer, so that on thinking / looking the respective flight / weapon / comms system is used. The IDC in conjunction with the AHD personalizes the symbiotic relationship between the AI / Mako and the pilot to an even greater degree. The pilot's thoughts are translated into functions / actions for execution of any flight control / weapon / comms activation command - reducing the reaction time to any situation to an almost instantaneous response. The bioelectric signature of the pilot is constantly monitored by the AI / LCARS verifying each systems' authorized use by the pilot.

Thus the Mako v. IV one of the most formidable pieces of technology in the Federation.

Note-1: The AHD is designed so as to prevent any AI from functioning beyond pre-programmed specific parameters. Therefore the AI will never perform any action without authorization from the pilot - thus preventing the pilot from losing control due to AI interference.

Note-2: In the event of total loss of life of the pilot and permanent malfunction of a Mako, the AI is pre-programmed to send an en-coded transmission of all data form the pilot's information modules, system modules and operational modules though the nearest sub-space transponder to Starfleet Fighter Command for record and archival purposes.

Note 3: In the event of any pilot becoming renegade, the FSCO, FSXO and Base CO have the authority to revoke access to the Mako's systems' rendering the weapons systems inactive.
