[[Meklinite]] is a substance sometimes found within [[asteroid]]s which is known to interfere with ships' sensor scans. The substance was found in high quantities in an asteroid belt near the [[Alpha Omicron]] system, which may explain why the spaceborne creatures found to be living within the belt (such as "Junior") were not previously detected.
