Tch'Kair (Sigma Draconis IV)

Sigma Draconis (σ Dra / σ Draconis) is a star 18.8 Light Years away from Earth. It is located in the Alpha Quadrant Its traditional name is Alsafi. It is located in the Terran constellation of Draco. Its visual magnitude is 4.68.

The traditional name Alsaf (also Athafi) supposedly derives from an Arabic word al-athafi "the cooking tripods". This refers to the tripods used by nomads for open-air cooking.

The star is a main sequence dwarf of Spectral Class G Yellow Dwarf Star (G9V). The radius of this star has been directly measured, which yields a result of 77.8% of the Sol's radius. The rotation rate of this star (vsini) is relatively low at 1.5 km/s. It is considered a slightly metal-poor star; meaning it has a lower proportion of isotopes with more mass than Helium when compared to Sol.

The temperature, luminosity and surface activity of this star appear to vary slightly in a manner very similar to the sunspot cycle, although the full length of this cycle has not yet been determined. The total variability of this star is among the lowest of all stars that have been measured by the Hipparcos project.

The components of this star's space velocity are U=+36, V=+40 and W=-10 km/s. This gives the star an unusually large orbital eccentricity about the Milky Way Galaxy of 0.30 (compared to 0.06 for Sol.) The mean galactocentric distance for this orbit is 10.3 kiloparsecs (about 34,000 Light Years).

The Solar System[edit]

because of the relatively low density and therefore weaker gravitational force of the star's pull, The system has a slightly more eccentric orbital gait than most other star systems of a similar type.

The system is comprised of Five primary planetary bodies, an asteroid field and a handful of protoplanets.

Sigma Draconis I[edit]

This very small planetary body barely manages to make the grade. it is really only slightly larger than a planetoid, and it can be argued that it is marginally more than a spheroidal asteroidal body that was captured on a close orbit around the primary star. It is composed of a mostly metal free rock strata, as during formation most of the planet's heavier elements were siphoned away by the then young star. this planet is considered a marginal Class D world.

Sigma Draconis II[edit]

The second planet of note in the system is more closely related to the Sol's system's Venus tahn any of her solar neighbors. The planet is very inhospitable, and it's wildly variant temperatures and extremely acidic environment make investment in mining and other resource exploitation cost-prohibitive. This planet is classified as a Class Y planet due to it's environmental extremes

Sigma Draconis III[edit]

The third planet in the system is a Class K which has been colonized by the systems's native inhabitants the Tch'Kairn. The world is sparcely populated, but was of strategic value to controlling the system. Due to this the Waagoshin built a Fighter base on this world as one of the system defenses after they occupied the system in 2305.

As such it became a target of military necessity during the fight for liberation in 2408.

Sigma Draconis IV[edit]

Sigma Draconis IV (also known as Tch'Kair) is the home world to the Tch'Kairn race. It is the only Class M world in the system and unlike most of the other planets therein, is considered resource rich. This fact made it a prime industrialized world that was ripe for exploitation. The Waagoshin occupied the planet beginning in 2305, after the Tch'Kairn came to the aid of their Allies the Joz and the Niglik when the Waagoshin invaded the planet Nigli.

In 2408, the Tch'Kairn Resistance with the aid of the crew of the Federation starship the USS Hades liberated the population of their world.

Sigma Draconis V[edit]

The fifth planet in the system is classified as a Class T world, and bears a pair of brilliant rings. The planet although larger than a more hospitable class M world is not as large as a Gas Giant. The Tch'Kairn have established colonies there to harvest rare gases and minerals. The planet was the last to succumb to Waagoshin military force during the invasion of the system in 2305. As such the waagoshin established a military base on the world to allow better control of the inhabitants.

Because of the military presence there, members of the USS Hades assault teams atacked and neutralized the facility as part of their efforts to liberate the system from the Waagoshin.
