I'm baaaaaack. And better than ever. I pulled a muscle in my back, but I got over it, and the only thing wrong at the moment is my sleep apnia, which I have to have surgery for. Hopefully I can get my head back in the game and do good. Cheers! James...

A region of space in the [[gamma quadrant]] that has banded together in a multi-system government controlled by an Emperor. There are twenty-one planets in the Dacoralian Star Empire and nine different sentient life forms. The capitol planet is the planet of [[Dacoral]].

[[Image:Dacoral.jpg|right|thumb|300px|The planet [[Dacoral]], capitol of the Dacoralian Star Empire in the [[Gamma Quadrant]]]]
The Star Empire recently came out of a civil war and redistributed the Empire's government. It applied for Federation membership and was accepted as a member only a few hours before Admiral Doenitz forcefully took over the leadership of the Federation. The Empire decided to postpone their official entrance into the Federation. Upon hearing this, Doenitz had the Dacoralian Ambassador to the Federation and his entire staff killed, and declared all Dacoralian Citizens Persona Non Grata in the Federation.

Non-canon: Doenitz then ordered a task force of fourteen ships to the heart of the DSE with orders to destroy the Dacoralian homeworld while the DSE fleet was in dissarray and unable to stop them. The task force entered the Dacoral system, but the DSE was reintegrating the rebel navy into the Empire's Navy, and more than three hundred ships were in the system under cloak. When it became clear that the Starfleet vessels were hostile, the fleet decloaked and destroyed the fleet flagship. The remaining Starfleet vessels were surrendured immediately and taken as prizes to be outfitted to serve Dacoral.

The Dacoralian Star Empire has declared war on Doenitz's part of the Federation and has signed several treaties with the Klingon Empire, including a mutual defense treaty. They have also signed treaties with the Tzenkethi and the [[Gorn]]. The DSE has martialed the defenses of the [[gamma quadrant]] against both the ever-present Borg and Dominion threats in addition to the threat posed by Doenitz. Combined with their Gamma Quadrant neighbors the Dacoralian Alliance currently has more than a thousand ships on patrol in the gamma quadrant, with concentrations at the wormhole, the Dominion border, and the heart of the DSE.
== Horta Basics ==
[[Image:horta2.jpg|thumb|right|Horta]]The Horta (Hortensia acidophlangia) species are indigenous to Janus VI. They are one of a very few known silicon based life forms [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_biochemistry]] ever discovered. They were discovered by the human (Homo sapiens) mining colony on Janus when the miners inadvertantly broke into the Horta's hatchery. See [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Devil_in_the_Dark]] for more on how the Horta species was discovered and found to be peaceful and sentient. They consume rock, minerals, and metallic ores by liquifying it with a very strong highly corrosive acid exuded from their undersides and then swiftly ingesting the resulting mixture. The acid, upon exposure to air oxidizes harmlessly and within a few minutes is neutralized. In feeding, they create tunnels and other underground cave-like structures and are the greatest natural geologists and miners in the known universe.

== Life as a Young Horta ==
[[Image:horta3.jpg|thumb|left|Horta nodules]]Hortas are birthed out of [[silicon nodules]] or eggs. They hatch without any armor and are still soft and exude acid uncontrollably. They are born hungry and begin tunneling and feeding almost immediately and within a week or so their first protective armor shell has formed. They vary about 1/2 to 1 foot across in size and are round or ovoid when first hatched. Often their first meal is whatever is left of their silicon egg shell. As they grow their first armor shell, they gain control over their ability to exude acid to which they themselves are immune.

Dancing or twirling is one behavior that has been observed in young Horta to express joy and playfulness. This behavior is most often exhibited after they have hardened their first shell of armor and have gained basic control over exuding acid. After their first few weeks of life most Horta are competitive to some degree and enjoy racing games through their caves and existing tunnels.

They are faster when smaller and lighter. As they age and become larger and heavier their armor grows thicker, and they gradually lose the ablity to be as quick. Young Hortas have been clocked at moving up to 7 miles per hour. It is presently unknown what might be its top speed. They can move quickly and quietly when needful even as adults.

== Life as an Adult Horta ==
[[Image:horta1.jpg|thumb|right|An adult Horta]]A Horta's full size is about 5 to 7 feet long. They are about 3 feet wide and about 2 to 2 and 1/2 feet high and can vary widely in color depending on diet. They can weigh up to 500 pounds due to their heavy outside armor. At this time they have been clocked up to 5.5 miles per hour when full grown with their heavier well developed adult armor. A Horta looks like a large flattish grouping of lumpy molten rock. They have hair-like [[phalanges]] on their undersides which serve the dual purpose of sweeping up rock dust and other pebbles for ingestion and to control the acid and rock mixture as they feed. It is unknown at this time how long a Horta can live, but current estimates are at least 300 years.

Each Horta has one limb or tentacle that grows amongst its [[phalanges]], usually on or close to one end of their oblong bodies on the underside. It is prehensile and both allows them to grasp objects and to touch each other for purposes of relating and communication and is much like the tails on some of Earth's primates. An adult's appendage can grow up to three feet but it is considered among the Horta culture to be rude to drag their appendage on the ground after them. They consider it better manners to keep it coiled and tucked up neatly underneath their bodies and used when neccessary for specific tasks.

== Horta's Senses ==
Hortas have sensory input in several ways. One is by detecting vibrations that others send out from talking, walking or running, heartbeat, breathing and general movement. Thus a Horta can detect rocks falling in an underground cave twenty feet below, someone running away on the other side of a hill out of human optical sight, a herd of animals stampeding two hundred miles away, or the muted roar of an underground river. This type of passive sonar is akin to the human ability to hear.

On earth, sharks and many kinds of fish have special sensory organs that can sense electrical impulses. A Horta can see much the same way only much more refined. This gives them the ability to think very quickly and with a superfast brain a Horta can actually see the electrical impulses in living things from humanoids down to plants, not to mention all the electical impulses in a starship or starbase. This would mean that a Horta could see the impulses and be mentally quick enough to anticipate movements, giving it a slight look into [[Image:horta4.jpg|thumb|left|Horta mother mind-melding with Spock]]the 'future', and allowing it to dodge before anyone pulls the trigger of a phaser, or get out of the way of a thrown object. This electrical sensitvity is extended all over the body, meaning that when the pehensile phalange is raised up to a control pannel, the Horta would still be able to see through the sensory input from the appendage itself. A ship's walls or computer consoles would show up as strong fluxes of electrical energy where most creatures that are bio-chemically electrical in function show up as more fragile and dimmer shapes, but up close as sparkling shaped spiderey like webs. This type of electrical impulse detection is akin to the human ability to see, but in the Hortas it also allows them the ability to communicate and speak to each other by touch via electrical impulse exchange.

Another way that Hortas have sensory input is by taste. Most Hortas can detect any type of rock, mineral, or metallic ore by taste, just as humans can tell which food they are eating by taste if blinfolded. This makes Hortas living soil analysis machines. A Horta might then be helpful in detecting extraneous chemicals which might poison a carbon based life form, but not necessarily a silicon based life form. In the exploration of space, however, it might be wise to be cautious before allowing a curious Horta to ingest unknown substances as what might poison a Horta in deep space is still unknown at this time.

== Hortan Tradition and Culture ==
Hortas think of most humanoids as tall graceful stalks, and often in their culture refer to them as such. They live peacefully in groups and get along well with little violence, although the children can often act up when playing like many young of humanoid species.

The Hortas have a rich and varied musical and lingusitic tradition, much of which is based in a rock, mineral and metal context. Rythm, tone and word images of long duration are passed on from generation to generation, similiar to the stories of ancient Irish, Scottish and Welsh cultures millenia ago on Earth as well as highly developed philosphical and religious beliefs and practices that have not been yet recorded at this time.

Not much is known about mating selection or mating practices, although it has been observed that a favorite line of male Hortas translates as “From under what rock did you crawl out?"

== Horta's Senses ==

This would mean that a Horta could see the impulses and be mentally quick enough to anticipate movements, giving it a slight look into the 'future', and allowing it to dodge before anyone pulls the trigger of a phaser, or get out of the way of a thrown object.

== Horta Basics ==

== Life as a Young Horta ==

A Horta's full size is about 5 to 7 feet long.

Not that tall, Emily makes up for it by being very good at her job. She has the ability to tell when people are lying and makes most people uncomfortable with her intensity. She is well built, and while not muscular is still very strong.
=='''Family and Background'''==
[[Image:gregory.jpg|thumb|150px|left|Captain Gregory North]][[Image:Miranda.jpg|thumb|100px|right|USS Cher'ok]]Emily North was the daughter of Reese and Luan Cingly of Betazed. They both died in a shuttle collision before Emily was born. She was delivered and saved by a starfleet doctor, Lt. Commander Gregory North who was on vacation at Betazed during the accident. When it became clear that she was not welcome within the remainder of her family due to her parent's elopement, Gregory adopted her and took her back aboard the USS Cher'ok where he was stationed. She spent the first seventeen years of her life with her adopted father, who as far as Emily was concerned was her father.
[[Image:Uss_firebrande.jpg|thumb|100px|right|USS Brannock]]
Her father was promoted to Commander when she was eight and transferred to the USS Brannock as first officer. Emily began exploring the ship, and eventually made friends with the ships Deltan securtiy chief, Lt. Commander Narram Prex, who took her under his wing. Emily began learning how to be a security officer, even being allowed to go on patrols with the security team.
[[Image:Prax.jpg|thumb|150px|left|Commander Narram Prex]][[Image:prentiss.jpg|thumb|100px|right|USS Prentiss]]
By the time Emily was twelve her father had been promoted to Captain and given a ship straight out of the shipyards, the USS Prentiss. Captain North took the Brannock's security chief and several other security officers with him to the Prentiss, and Emily continued to learn from Prex. When Emily was fifteen her father was given a new ship, the USS Yattervol. Prex was promoted to the rank of commander and North took him as first officer. Emily finished all shipboard training and Prex sponsored her to the Deltan Tactical School where she learned tactics and combat techniques.Eventually she applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted. She was also accepted into red squad for her tactical abilities.
[[Image:E-EQuantm.jpg|thumb|100px|right|USS Yattervol]]
Her father continued to command the Yattervol along with Prex. After Doenitz siezed control, he remained in the Federation. After the attack on Andoria Captain North lost faith in Doenitz's sincerity, integrity, and sanity. When the Gorn refused to join Doenitz's forces, Doenitz sent a fleet of ships to the Cestus system. Captain North took his entire twenty four ship task force ahead to 'scout' the area, but actually not only warned the Gorn Hegemony that Doenitz was coming, but joined the Gorn Defense Fleet and gave the Gorn valuable data on Doenitz's forces. Because of his interference, the Gorn were able to hold off Doenitz's invasion long enough for reinforcements to arrive and managed to win the battle of Cestus. The USS Yattervol is currently on station in Gorn Space along with approximately thirty renegade starfleet vessels that are unable to make it through Doenitz's lines to get to LaDonna's forces. The North's fleet is currently helping the Gorn forces defend their territory from Doenitz's belligerence.

=='''Education'''==
Emily was raised on starships by her father, her education was therefore built not only on the principles of the Federation, but the high standards of starfleet. She also learned about starship security and tactical abilities from Narram Prex, who later sponsored her to the Deltan Tactical Academy on Delta IV. He also sponsored her to Starfleet Academy where she was a accepted as a member of red squad due to her tactical knowledge. She graduated from Starfleet Academy in three years because of her previous experiences on board starships.

=='''Pre-Starfleet History'''==
There were no major events in her life prior to her acceptance of an officer's commission in Starfleet.

=='''Starfleet History'''==
[[Image:def.jpg|thumb|100px|right|USS Valkerie vs. the Borg]]
Emily was stationed on board the USS Valkerie as an Ensign (JG). She was a junior security officer on board who distinguished herself by saving the Chief Engineer when a plasma manifold exploded. She was promoted to Ensign (SG) and made assistant tactical chief.

She was transferred to the USS Orson where she served as a tactical officer for two years before being promoted to Lieutenant (JG) and made tactical chief and assistant security chief. Ambassador Richards came aboard to be transported to a planet in the Gamma Quadrant called Dacoral, with whom diplomatic relations had just opened. [[Image:proto.jpg|thumb|100px|right|USS Orson]]
Ambassador Richards was so [[Image:northgun.jpg|thumb|150px|left|Emily leading the mission to rescue her husband]]impressed with the security [[lieutenant]] that he formally attached her to his embassy staff. She was immediately promoted to Lieutenant (SG) and placed second in command of the Federation Embassorial Staff on Dacoral.
[[Image:command.jpg|thumb|100px|right|Federation Embassy on Dacoral]]
She was on Dacoral when the Dacoralian Civil War broke out and was present at Dacoralian military command when the only Alpha Quadrant [[Dragon Knight]], James Guildford, was transported to the planet. She saved James's life when a rebel strike squad attacked command while the ambassador was welcoming James. They immediately became good friends, and eventually lovers. James asked Emily to marry him three times before she finally accepted to "Get him out of her hair". She taught James about tactics and security, and convinced him to join Starfleet upon his return to Earth. James fought in the war for two years before being captured by the rebels and tortured. Emily scrambled some security volunteers and attacked the internment facility where James was being held and managed to rescue him and his comrades.

In retaliation, the rebels attacked the Federation Embassy and captured the facility's staff including Ambassador Richards and Emily. Ambassador Richards managed to negotiate the release of most of the Federation prisoners in exchange for a few officers captured by the Dragon Knights. Emily refused to leave the Ambassador, who was being held because he was the most valuable hostage. Eventually her part in leading the rescue attempt was revealed and the rebels recorded her punishment. She was tortured, beaten, then burned alive. Her body was cut into pieces and delivered back to her husband as a warning to all Federation citizens to stay out of the war. James went on a rampage and murdered everyone involved in her death, which eventually led to the end of the Civil War on Dacoral.
=Usage=

There are many ways to incorporate the above infoboxes into your character's sheet. Above you can see how they are ordered in a simple table; however, that table may have different shapes and may be placed anywhere on a page, according to the table formatting rules.

==List of Templates==

In most cases you won't have the need to copy the whole table with all infoboxes to your character's sheet, and you will want to choose single templates only. For ease of reference the following table, with Infoboxes and their corresponding Template tags, is provided.

==Example of a table==

|-
|{{Infobox USS Spectre Player}}
|}

You can, of course, copy the whole table and delete the templates you don't need.

You can also have fun with the "''border: 1px''" (table border width), "''#99B3FF''" (border's colour), "''background:#f8fcff''" (self explanatory).
The decision to leave was not taken lightly, and the reasons were manifold. However, a lack of cooperation from FGN high command in terms of the mailing lists and webspace is cited as two of the deciding factors. Star Trek : Freedom is completely capable of, and has already in practice been, handling its own affairs in a reasonable and worthwhile manner.
<Br><Br>
It is requested that all resources and pages devoted to Star Trek : Freedom be removed from the FGN Web Server. We will have already made the switch completely to our server by the time this notice is sent
<Br><Br>
Know that we as a gaming community do not hold a grudge of any sort against the FGN or the persons contained within. Several of our players have PC's in Vanguard, and they would like to keep them. I would hope that personal opinions and concerns would not force those players to choose between the FGN and Star Trek : Freedom, both institutions would loose in the end.
* Utopia Planitia has been launched, with lots of excitement, and that excitment doesn't stop at the Wiki. To help keep UP pages clear from the rest of the wiki, a special sub-main page (or '''portal''', in wiki nerd talk) was created. You can find it at [[Portal: Utopia Planitia]].
* Those who have characters in Utopia Planitia can find themselves a new Player Infobox. The template is called 'Template: Infobox UP Player'. You can add it to your userpage by adding <nowiki>{{Infobox UP Player}}</nowiki>
* A quick note, if you create a new article and misspell, please use the 'Move' button at the top of the page. This will move your article, without leaving a blank orphaned page behind. This makes a little less work for the Wiki Admin Team (mostly Anthony).
| '''17th Febuary 2006''':
* There has been many updates (bigger and smaller) to existing pages through the recent days. The entries for several ships and stations where updated (those well know, and those less know).
* Please, when creating a new entry use as much links as possible - even if you don't know if a page/entry corresponding to the link will ever be created - link! In future somebody may see that the link points to a non-existing entry, and will update that entry her/himself. This is very important - the basis for the whole Wiki system are the links which enable the reader to seemlessly travel from one entry to another. Don't accumulate massive amount of data in one place - instead, try to separate it into different entries for ease of refference. Remember this is not suppose to be a book-like but encyclopedia-like system.
* For those that haven't noticed it yet, there is a small but handy feature available in the toolbox (the box on the left, below the searchbox) when you open the "''Recent changes''" menu: an RSS and ATOM feeds just sitting there ready to be eaten by your browsers/newsreaders :)
| '''12th Febuary 2006''':
* Many people got involved into this Wiki in the recent days, and there has been a great amount of small changes recently. People are putting up their characters' entries, update details about the ships in the Fleet, and much of general information concerning the 52nd Fleet, its history and the history of The Civil War have been updated. Not the mention all the technical details the crew is constantly working on...
* A fragment of what one of the Game Council Members (Anthony) said about this Wiki system recently:
:"''The wiki continues to grow and its becoming a seriously large extension of the website, if you've not checked it out recently, I ask you to do so :)''

:''One of the cool things about the wiki is the [[newsletter]], which allows anyone to add their own information, tell the world about yourself by answering some of the questions in there!''"
* There is a new [[Player Infoboxes|Player Infobox]] for players who have their characters serving within any of the in-game Marines groups. It still awaits approval by our Wiki expert but the [[Template:Infobox Marines Player|template]] ( <nowiki>{{Template:Infobox Marines Player}}</nowiki> ) can be used already.
| <center>'''More About Utopia Planitia'''</center>
|-
| Utopia Planitia is set 15 years post-[[Dominion Wars (Utopia Planitia)|Dominion Wars]], in the year 2389. Starfleet is still recovering from the devastating Wars, after billions have died in the defense of the [[Federation (Utopia Planitia)|Federation]] and [[Starfleet (Utopia Planitia)|Starfleet]]. Even with reparations from the [[Dominion (Utopia Planitia)|Dominion]], recourses are low and the fleet still hasn’t fully recovered. There are plenty of ships, lines of trade for resources have been tentatively formed, but the fleet is experiencing a distinct lack of experienced manpower.
|-
| A good portion of the trained crews and command officers were killed in the line of duty during the war. Those that replaced them and survived, though fully capable at warfare, are still getting their bearings in times of peace. Most of the current crop of Commanders and Captains were rushed through the ranks, or through the Academy, in order to keep the fleet staffed during the war. Fifteen years has mellowed many, but it has also lead to numerous diplomatic mistakes and image problems which has destroyed much public support for Starfleet.
|-
| This comes at one of the worst times since the fall of the Dominion. There is much territory to be explored, territory granted by treaty to the Allies. Colonies have sprung up, closely guarded by Starfleet from the multiple rogue Dominion ships whose commanders were unable, or unwilling, to surrender.
|-
| The [[Romulan Star Empire (Utopia Planitia)|Romulan Empire]], unsatisfied with concessions granted after the fall of the Dominion, has begun beating the proverbial drum and has gone to a much more warlike stance, although the exact target of their aggression is not yet known. Though it is considered unlikely, Starfleet has quietly sent as much strength as they are able to the Romulan neutral zone, which was re-established two years after the end of the Dominion War. Diplomatic Relations between the Federation and the Romulan Empire are strained.
|-
| At the same time, the relations between the Federation and the [[Klingon Empire (Utopia Planitia)|Klingon Empire]] are still strong. Chancellor [[Martok(Utopia Planitia)|Martok]] , one of the most popular chancellors in the last five-hundred years, has begun a campaign of expansion within the [[Delta Quadrant (Utopia Planitia)|Delta Quadrant]] into lands granted by treaty…. And into a few that were not. The Klingons and Dominion splinter groups have locked horns in combat a dozen major times over wealthy planets; it seems only a matter of time before the old Dominion War is resumed, if on a smaller scale.
|-
| The [[Breen (Utopia Planitia)|Breen]] have not been heard from since the end of the War, they pulled their ships back into their own territory and refuse (with force, if necessary) any diplomatic overture sent into their space. Starfleet, mindful of the fact that Earth has only just started to recover from the bombardment suffered at Breen hands, maintains a strong defensive force on the edge of Breen space.
|-
| Utopia Planitia, as one of the three largest Fleet Shipyards and the center for the Mars Defense Perimeter, is in the midst of a wild building spree that has continued for years. Science Vessels, Warships, Patrol Ships, all are being built as fast as safety can be assured. The aging science fleet of the Federation was almost entirely destroyed; the Miranda’s, Nebulas, Ambassadors, Excelsior’s and other such older vessels which had formed the backbone of the fleet were almost entirely destroyed during the Dominion War. Now there is a rush to build Akiras, Galaxies, Sovereigns and Steamrunners, all of which are earmarked to the furthest parts of the Federation and beyond. And, unlike the time before the Dominion Wars, now there is a definitive program for building Defiant and Prometheus class vessels for protection, along with half a dozen more Starship Design Projects for other Combat-based vessels.
|-
| The lessons of the Dominion War were learned, and learned well. Starfleet will never again be caught so unprepared for combat.
|-
| Utopia Planitia has become the center of a Diplomatic Effort to stabilize relations with both the Dominion and the Romulan Empire. Rather then hold such efforts at Earth, Mars was chosen as a sign of strength, so that the envoys might see the ships being built and take word of that construction back to their home planets… lest their governments think the Federation and Starfleet have fallen into disuse.
|-
| There is also an expanded training program for [[Starfleet Academy (Utopia Planitia)|Starfleet Academy]] in place at Utopia Planitia, using the former temporary home of Starfleet Academy on Mars (after Starfleet Academy on Earth was destroyed by the Breen). This training facility endeavors to teach advanced courses in leadership, engineering and tactical study to the students of the newly re-established four-year curriculum.
|-
| Always there is the shadow of conflict. From the Romulans, from the Dominion… '''what will happen next?'''
Dacoral started off with one intelligent race, the [[Moriat]]s. After they had begun exploration of nearby system, they ran across a militant race, the [[Tarmack]], or hur'q in Klingon. The Tarmack enslaved the Moriat, and brought two other species to the planet of Dacoral, the [[Seskal]], and the Dacoral, after whom the planet was renamed. The Moriat and Seskal were used as slave labour, and were genetically experimented on. The Seskal started as Centaurian Insectoids, but were manipulated into humanoid and avian variants. The Moriat, already humanoid, were manipulated into aquatic, and massive forms. These experiments yielded slaves ready for many different enviornments.
The Dacoral are a bit of a mystery. They were large, sentient, extremely powerful dragon-like creatures with the ability to project themselves as different creatures. After the planet had been enslaved for about seven hundred years, the Dacoral led an uprising against the Tarmack. The Rebellion, as it became known, lasted for three hundred bloody years and involved most of Tarmack space. By the end of the Rebellion, the Tarmack were completely destroyed, and the Dacoral were all but extinct in their space. Most of the Dacoral left, but one stayed behind to serve as the Emperor of the newly formed [[Dacoralian Star Empire]]. That last member of the Dacoral who has remained on the planet for two hundred years is still the Emperor of the Dacoralian Star Empire, Semaj K'cod (pronounced Kay Sod).

==Shuttlecraft ''Topaz'' (NX-0099827)==

The shuttlecraft ''Topaz'' is the brainchild of Ensign [[James Hudson]] and his mentor [[Aberole]]. It is a newly designed, sub-transwarp shuttlecraft, designed for high warp speed delivery of a cargo, and personnel, in safety no matter the environment.

Recognisable by its "Wing-pods" that house the nacelles, and allow basic aerodynamics if in an atmosphere; and its small profile, the Topaz is an advanced piece of Shuttlecraft design and engineering.

It is powered by a revolutionary "micro-warp-core", the product of miniturisation of the older technologies, and follows the basic layout and design of standard Starfleet Shuttlecrafts, with some mentionable discrepancies:

===Topaz Basic Variant===

Instead of the typical grey bulkheads, the ''Topaz'' is constructed with a light dispersing black compound, lending the craft optical camoflauge at a distance, and its interior is set in cream, faint, fine red Starfleet insignia run along the wing-pods of the shuttle, but this is the only decoration. Identifying marks are located on the Wing-pods and the nose of the shuttle, but are in matt-black, and barely visible to the casual onlooker in space.

On the sensor side, the ''Topaz'' can modify its sensor shadow, mimicing space dust or a huge ship, depending on the need. It is untested at present, and may be problematic. The Shuttle has a dedicated Science terminal on board, located aft of the Conn station on the Port side.

The Conn station (port-forward) is a state of the art system, based on an improvement of the Starfleet Mako Conn system - giving the shuttle increased manuveurability for a ship its size.

A Combined Ops/Tactical station is starboard of the Conn station, and regulates Life Support, Shuttle Power systems, Shields, tractor beams, and offensive capability such as Phasers and Torpedoes.

The Topaz is outfitted with miniturised, underpowered [[phaser banks]] adapted from the [[Defiant]]-Class vessels, with a forward fire arc only, and with 2 [[Photon Torpedo]] launchers (again,foreward fire arc only).

===Topaz Combat Variant===

The Combat variant outfitted shuttle replaces the photon micro-launchers for experimental [[Quantum torpedo]] launchers, and loses the Science station for a more comprehensive Tactical capability and resources for the Shield and Secondary systems.

==Current==

The prototype shuttle is currently on board the [[USS Dennison]] after being taken to the [[52nd fleet]] by [[Lewis Nymes]].
Only First Officers of Duty Stations containing scientific personnel involved in this programme and above may access this informaton. Misuse of this information will incur the strictest penalties allowed by Federation Law.

==Basic Principles==

Matter-antimatter reaction is the reaction of matter and anti-matter which results in the most exothermal reaction presently known.

It frees energy the same was as nuclear fusion or nuclear fission, by creating a “mass defect”, which means the mass of the initial products of the reaction exceed those of the resulting educts. This “lost mass” is transformed into kinetic and heat energy in accordance with Einstein’s formula E=mc2.

Fusion reactions usually have a mass defect of less than 1%, whereas the matter-antimatter reaction transforms almost 100% of the mass of the initial products into energy.

The reaction of deuterium with anti-deuterium creates enough energy to power faster-than-light propulsion for starships, the Warp Drive.

[http://www.pparc.ac.uk/Ps/aac/images/Dark_Matter_Analysis_Small.jpg Dark Matter Collection Points]

==Dangers and Rewards==

Dark matter represents a huge destructive force within the galaxy. Its energy is so strong that it can destroy ships which is why Dark Matter nebulae are generally avoided. If dark matter and conversely antimatter could be controlled and used as an energy source it could allow for faster than warp 10 travel. To achieve this, it is necessary to find a stable way to capture and control dark matter. This device is almost complete but needs to have safety controls placed on it to keep it from being used in –less than proper- ways. Currently, all experiments, prototypes and scientific data are under level 1A or higher clearance and are to be stored and shipped covertly and under close supervision.

==Preliminary Studies==

Preliminary studies took place on the USS Pasteur where small amounts of dark matter/antimatter were collected and used in limited power experiments. Further testing will occur on Starbase Geneva, close to a number of spacial anomalies and sources of dark matter/antimatter energy. See attached diagrams for technical and theoretical details. At this point, the ability to harness this power now lies 20 years or less away from us. With each development, we get closer to making the use of dark matter/anti-matter a reality.

==Advanced Studies==

To continue studies into the next level, a team of 6 scientists have been employed, each with their own special talent and area of interest. These scientists are not serving on the same ship and are following their particular area of research independently of the other. This is to avoid the possibility of project stall or failure due to the death or disappearance of one or more scientists. This also guards against the possibility of capture and exploitation of information for improper purposes.
