==Background== R’Serrot was born and raised in one of the few mountainous regions of Cait. His family was among the few Caitians whose community was still organized primarily around hunting bands, avoiding the cities. However, his clan suffered from a problem common to rural isolationist communities on many worlds… lack of quick access to good medical care. While he was still a cub, his father died from a hunting wound from which he could easily been saved had he received adequate treatment in time. He determined then that when he was grown, he would travel to the city and become a doctor. His mother supported his ambition, but many others thought it a sort of betrayal that he did not wish to become a hunter, like his father before him. While at in school at a leading university medical center in Cait’s capital city, R’Serrot met Gr’iann. Gr’iann was an instructor at the time, who became a mentor to him. He encouraged R’Serrot to join Starfleet. At first, R’Serrot resisted the idea… it went against his vows of pacifism. He intended to go back to his people, bringing the medical care they needed so badly along with him. But one holiday, when he was home, he had a long talk with his mother. She could see what was happening around her, more clearly than he… Cait was not long to be safe from the ravages of the rising star of the Federation, the human fascist [[Admiral Doenitz]]. R’Serrot would never be able to really come home… many of the clan considered him to be an outsider now. When, during that same holiday, his bondmate cancelled their engagement, refusing to explain beyond a curt “you’ve changed”, he traded his former dreams for new ones, contacted Gr’iann, and was soon enrolled in [[Starfleet Academy]] After graduating with honors from the Academy, R’Serrot was assigned to one of Admiral Doenitz’ flagships. This was not what he had intended… he had planned to follow his mentor, Rear Admiral Gr’iann of the [[52nd Fleet]], into service under the ‘rebel’ Admiral Lodona. But somehow, the Academy’s covert routing process broke down, and he slipped trough the cracks. He had long known that the Federation was no longer the honorable organization it had once been… but he tried to make the best of things, contacting his teacher and friend only rarely, trying to protect both of them. But when he was ordered to take part in a “medical research” program that, to him, amounted to nothing less than a precursor to the kind of torture of non-Humans that Earth’s historic Nazis had perpetrated on the Jews, he knew he could no longer stay where he was. Taking his life in his hands, he contacted Gr’iann, then escaped and went to the planet where a Caitian can most easily hide… home, to Cait… there to await with hope an opportunity to get back out among the stars with Admiral [[Robert LoDona]]’s fleet. R’Serrot tends to be stubborn, especially when his core values are challenged. He is from a relatively rare subspecies of Caitian, thus his voice has a great deal more variance in tone than most, and is more expressive. Whereas most Caitians roar when sufficiently provoked, R’Serrot emits a high-pinched, ringing shriek that can be heard for miles in open country, and tends to strike fear into the hearts of all who hear it. He is in general a tolerant fellow, but tends to look upon some vegetarianism with mild disdain. He has not seriously studied any marital arts beyond the standard practices at the Academy… but his lightening reflexes, along with his natural endowments of tooth and claw, make him more than a match for most opponents. He is also skilled at hiding small items on his person, as well as in acquiring such items without being noticed.
