James joined the crew of the [[USS Spectre (NCC-8741)| U.S.S. Spectre]] . His first day on board the [[USS Spectre (NCC-8741)| Spectre]] James saved the ship by detecting a sabatoged diode on a quantum torpedo.  He recognized the diode had been tampered with and was rigged to explode upon discovery, and managed to throw it into a corridor outside of the torpedo storage bay.  He blew himself up in the process, but his wounds were minor.

James has lately begun teaching martial arts classes on board the [[USS Spectre (NCC-8741)| Spectre]] , which have become popular among the crew. He is on escort duty at the moment.
