Matthew attended Starfleet Academy, with a Secondary emphasis on Science, his primary emphasis was in Tactical and Security.

====USS Alacrity====

Matthew's first duty station was the USS Alacrity under Captain JT Talasario. When the Civil War started, Matthew as well as the Alacrity was on the Doenitz side of the war. He started out in the tactical department. When Captain Talasario and the Alacrity defected to the 52nd fleet, Matthew was among the officers that defected.

When Talasario took command of the science ship USS Humboldt, Matthew went with him, but due to his experience with science was moved over to the science department as a Lt. JG and ACSO.

Matthew was transferred to the USS Spectre, at the same time as other officers of the Humboldt were being transferred there.
