Joined Starfleet Academy for his medical major. In his final year he specialised in Low and Zero-G medicine. He picked this speciality because of his time on the SS Storm Chaser and DSRV Nightingale. 

====Federation Naval Patrol Training==== 
Some of his star fleet training was in Zero-G and low gravity environments. This training took place at the Federation Naval Patrol's Dive School in Portsmouth UK. The course taught him about Zero-G and sub-surface search and rescue. It was taught by Master Chief Petty Officer Holiday who ran the school.

About: Cadet Williams final Psychology Report

I have been seeing Andrew for the last three years since I had taken up the post as Chief Counsellor. Andrew has been suffering from nightmares every night since his family was lost on the SS Storm Chaser five years ago. Extensive counselling was given directly after the disaster and subsequently afterwords. This has not however resolved the issue. Due to the nightmares which occur when ever Andrew falls asleep, Andrew was and still is on high doses of stimulants. This course of medication was started by me predecessor. He has recently started to use high caffeine supplements which I fear he had become addicted to. The medication has not hindered his Academy studies. there appears to be no psychology issues from the medication. Apart from the insomnia which he takes regular naps.

Family and Background
 
Parents originated from England on Earth. They worked on a salvage vessel Storm Chaser where Andrew and his older sister Audrey grew up. Learned how to EVA and salvage from a young age. Audrey joined star fleet intelligence. He was the only survivor when the Storm Chaser got caught in an ion storm while attempting to rescue a stranded freighter. Sister took him in. before joining Starfleet academy

Qualified as an EVA specialist holds a pilots license
 
Pre-Starfleet History
 
Storm Chaser learned basics of shuttle piloting, EVA and salvage. After parents death joined a deep space rescue vessel Nightingale where he spent a couple of years. He left the Nightingale and at the request of his sister applied for Starfleet Academy as a Doctor.
 
Starfleet History
 
During his medical training he specialized in Zero-G and low gravity medicine. he spent a trimester learning how to scuba dive on earth and then spent two trimesters with the fleet deep space search and rescue.
