Benjusidrine is a cardiovascular drug used to treat Vulcans who suffer from congestive heart failure. This drug was prescribed for Sarek, Spock's father, who suffered from congestive heart failure; however, his condition became too advanced for medical therapy alone, and surgery was required. (TOS: "Journey to Babel") It is suspected that this drug acts very similar physiologically in Vulcans as adrenaline does in human patients. Therefore it is likely that this compound is a natural stimulant that may work in a similar method only on Vulcan Physiology. There is some debate as to whether this drug would be effective in treating other copper-based Vulcanoid species such as the Romulans or the Debrune. Additionally, there is no clear indication that this drug is safe to use on non-Vulcans. The drug, however, was readily available in 2173. Whether this was because of widespread use, or the possibility that it was stocked in anticipation of the Babel conference is unknown. [[Category: Medical]]
