The [[Communications Relay Satellite]] or '''CRS''' is a specialized class VII Probe designed to be deployed by [[transporter]] by [[Federation]] [[starship]]s.

The device is specifically designed to handle the transferal and relay of [[subspace]] communications in remote regions or in situations were complete communications are lost.

Just such an event took place on Stardate 2414.01.01 aboard [[Starbase 989]]. On that date the starbase lost all power when a swarm of [[Vexarak Spoiler]]s invaded the base and began to consume critical power relays on the starbase.

A CRS was launched by the crew of the [[USS Rosenante]] in order to aid in establishing communication with Starbase personnel and handling the communications need of riot and disaster relief.
