A duonetic field, while a form of energy itself, was a field that inhibits energy flow and was capable of disabling virtually all 24th century Federation technology in a large area. It could be caused naturally by the presence of astatine, or artificially created by a small generator. In 2414, the USS Boudicca encountered an egg-like structure on the planet Color II that was attached to the planet's Geothermal Tap. As the egg absorbed power, it produced a low-level Duonetic field at the source, but also occasionally pulsed, causing power interruptions and problems with the systems on the Boudicca which was in orbit. Only the destruction of the egg, restored the Boudicca to full functionality. It also restored the power flow to the planet. Unfortunately, it also represented the death of an entire species of creatures, known only as the Beast of Color II. ---- Duonetic Fields were first seen in the USS Boudicca Mission Dead or Alive
