The Neural Transceiver is a form of bionetic technology that serves as a type of Borg subspace transceiver. This device links every drone to the collective Hive Mind. Located in the upper spinal column, the transceiver links Borg drones directly to the Borg's subspace communications network, and the drone literally hears the collective voices of others in the hive. Recovered Borg have stated that the effect is almost hypnotic, and quite overwhelming. (VOY: "Unity", "The Gift") In 2374, the Borg entered an alliance with the Voyager crew to deal with the threat of Species 8472. The Borg offered to implant neural transceivers into Captain Janeway and Tuvok as a more efficient means of communication. Even though the Borg claimed that they would not be damaged from the temporary emplacements, Janeway refused and preferred to speak with a single drone. (VOY: "Scorpion, Part II") In 2375, the Borg Queen tapped into Seven of Nine's neural transceiver. She informed Seven that they were aware of USS Voyager's plan to steal a transwarp coil, and offered her a deal where they would spare Voyager if she agreed to return to the Collective. (VOY: "Dark Frontier") In 2376, Seven of Nine adapted a neural transceiver to interface with a portable regenerator, to allow Icheb to continue regenerating when it seemed he would be returning to his parents. (VOY: "Child's Play") When Neelix told the Borg children a story about Voyager's encounter with an electromagnetic lifeform later that year, Icheb asked why Seven of Nine didn't simply remodulate her neural transceiver to send a message when the creature disabled the on-board communications and threatened her in the cargo bay. (VOY: "The Haunting of Deck Twelve")
