Active duty fighter pilots are eligible to receive up to four sets of wings during their career. Only the most recent award may be worn on the uniform. <br> <br> Pilots who transfer to another department are no longer eligible to earn higher level wings. Pilots who transfer to another department, other than command, are no longer eligible to wear their wings on their uniforms, though the award is not removed from their service record. Pilots who are promoted into the command department of their duty station (the ship or station where their fighter squadron is based), may continue to wear their wings on their uniforms, but are not eligible to earn advancing levels of wings. <br> <br> Wings are worn on the left side of the chest, above the com badge.
