Editing The Salid Gambit

[[The Salid Gambit]] is a tactical maneuver that is used when conflict between starships is not desired, but one starship is following the other with the intent to capture or cause injury to the first.

This maneuver was first used in the [[Bardon Alpha|Bardon System]] during a conflict between the [[USS Rosenante]] and the [[USS Furious]]. After being falsely accused of conducting an attack on the Bardon Mining Facility, the USS Furious, commanded by [[Rank|Captain]] [[Saleke]]  ordered the Rosenante to surrender.

Captain [[Ahmed Ibn Salid|Salid]] suspecting a conspiracy regarding the construction of the [[Omega Device]] declined and ordered the rosenante to evade the Furious and make best speed for [[The Mill]], a section of space renown as a navigational hazard.

The Furious engaged the Rosenante, dealing moderate damage to the other vessel when a volley of phased [[Quantum Torpedo]]es ignored the Rosenante's shileds and impacted against her unprotected hull.

Not entirely convinced that Saleke was part of the conspiracy, but thought to be manipulated into conducting their dirty work, Salid was reluctant to use the Rosenante's full force of arms against another [[Federation]] Starship. using their phasers to significantly weaken the forward [[Deflector Shields]] of the Furious, Salid them ordered a volley of modified concussive charge photon torpedoes to be launched and detonated ahead of the Furious, in the the hopes that the Furious would take evasive action and thereby allowing the Rosenante to escape.

While the torpedoes would not have caused any damage, Saleke was unaware of this fact and chose to shift his vessel's heading, to force the torpedoes to strike a stronger set of ship's shields. by the time that he realized that the attack was a ruse and that there would have been no damage to his vessel, the Rosenante had reached [[The Mill]] and escaped.
