The USS Illuminar began a series of mini-missions attempting to track down an illegal arms dealer, who had been providing raiders with a novel weapons system. During the missions, the Captain was injured and the name 'Roanoke' reared its ugly head.

While the ship was damaged in the first encounter with the Pirates, the Engineering team discovered a way to neutralize the weapon, so that the second encounter was more in the Illuminar's favor.

The pirates had set up a base on Sigma Draconis VI under the protection of "Controller', a powerful computer that was controlled by the females of the planet. The Captain successfully negotiated with 'Control' to provide the people of the planet with the needed resources, while the 'Control' removed its protection from the Pirates. This allowed the Illuminar Security Forces to take control of the Pirate base and destroy it.

After neutralizing the Pirates base, the Illuminar headed to Betazed for a brief break before continuing on to their next mission. The R&R was mared by the death of a cadet during a HALO training jump.
