The designers used the Gueken fighter as their starting point for their prototype design some of its design features can be seen in the final design. They are approximately 10 meters in length with a low profile, sleek design and can be deployed as tactical escorts to a mother starship, patrol craft for star bases or planets. They were also looking at a deep space reconnaissance and exploration model. The Serenity’s shuttle bay has been designed to accommodated their rapid deployment and recovery. Small personal screens can be activated for each of the different work stations. It has taken some time for the crew to get use to being able to see the depths of an ocean or deep space below their feet but on whole it has been a receptive design addition.
