However things quickly precipitated into a conflict with the Borg leader, [[Volus]] opening a [[Temporal Vortex]] and jumping backwards in time. As a result the Kelman was too late to be instrumental in the battle and subsequent mission as it unfolded. Finding the two ships gone, Commander O'Neill left a relay beacon in place to maintain a vigil for the two vessels while conducting some scans of the system.
