The drive unit utilizes a pair entangled quantum singularities to produce it's power. The entire drive unit basically is a powerful housing unit and propulsion system.

The drive unit is handled by a master pilot and is designed to act as a modular drive unit that can be interchanged with every model of [[Joz]] ships from freighters to warships.

Fundamentally, Joz [[Starship]]s are not Faster-than-light capable without the addition of the Drive Unit. They have instead a maximum operational speed of .75 impulse.

To acheive FTL speed, the drive unit attaches to the starship, and takes control of that ship's maneuvering systems.

In effect it is the pilot of the Drive Unit who is the [[Rank|Captain]] of any given starship.

Because of the extreme expense of manufacturing Drive Units, there are fewer drive units in existence than there are Joz Ships. As a result, the Joz jealously guard their units, doing all within their ability to prevent them from being destroyed or captured in battle whenever possible. This has been relatively easy as the drives far surpass those of their opponents the [[Waagoshin]]. Unlike other Joz ships, Joz Drive Units are never controlled by [[Telepresence]].
