Type : The Tarawa class has a version of the Multi-phasic <br />
shielding fitted to the Defiant, class, but with considerably <br />
lower amount of power available, the shields are no-where <br />
near as strong as the original. However, the new shields <br />
are a huge improvement over the original Shields fitted <br />
to the Danube class<br><br />
<i>Current Variants </i><br><br />
Ambulance : The standard Tarawa Class Runabout is <br />
able to be converted into an Ambulance suitable to <br />
carrying 36 stretcher cases as well as up to 12 seated <br />
casualties or medical personnel. This conversion takes <br />
approximately 45 minutes, and the stretchers are carried <br />
as standard equipment on all Tarawa Class Runabouts<br><br />
Infiltrator : This version has had the Dorsal Weapons <br />
pod removed to mount ancillary equipment for a Cloaking <br />
device. This is fitted in the Mission Module of the <br />
Runabout, and takes approx. 72 hours to complete. <br />
The module will be available to marine units on an "as required" issue plan to Special Operation capable <br />
units, and only with explicit approval from the CO. <br><br />
The Cloak battery stores enough power for a total <br />
of 8 hours, and can only be recharged at a Starbase <br />
or Starship. </p><br />
