he entered Star Fleet to get experience with starships and spent many years there working his way up to chief engineer. He did take some time and spent 12 years at the Tanaline Propulsion Laboratory before being promoted to Chief engineer of the USS Pendragon. With his promotion to Commander, he served on the USS Pharoh before being called to Star Fleet Academy as a lead engineering instructor. He spent the next two decades there before his final tour on the USS Afton. He subsequently retired from Starfleet.

After retiring from Star Fleet, he spent several years traveling the alpha quadrant, before settling down as a contractor for hire. His experience and skills meant he was never bored, and found himself at many of the major building projects in the galaxy

During his time aboard the Lakota, he learned the history of the V’tosh Ka’tur, Vulcans who rejected the emotional control of Surak. There was an episode when he was on a landing party, one he doesn’t talk about to anyone, that pushed him over the edge to release the control of his emotions. This liberated him and confused many people who expected a cold, calculating Vulcan, but were stuck with Zerin.

His family disowned him, his betrothed rejected him. While not an outcast, Vulcan’s can be uneasy around him and his carefree ways. Zerin credits his epiphany for making him a better engineer.

He became a civilian contractor on the project to build Starbase Freedom.
