Today was a great day on the Mithrandir. Still no major activity but BJ and I had a great time Light Sailing through the Bajoran Eddies. We made the Zuri fly! I am definitely going to try talking him into entering the next Regatta! If we don’t win hands down we will have a great time trying. I need to design a better rigging for the solar sails, they pick up a bit too much static and are too subject to the flares. I need a good filtering system to capture, store, and regulate incoming solar energy and the emissions. It could work but I need to see engineering to get their help.

Beyond that today was a good day in the labs and I feel Masterson is finally accepting my inevitable presence there. We just launched the microprobes Lani designed and everything is working with them, the readings are incredible. I also received word that the dissertation schedule was not a problem and we will be going forward with that soon. Who would have thought I would have taken a dare and gone so far?

The last part of the day … that was more than incredible. After my teasing BJ, poor guy, it seems … or appears to me that … well. He is a good friend and I find myself very glad he was assigned to this ship. Signing on about the same time helped and the fact we are both space brats gives us more in common than I first thought. He has a gentle spirit but is strong and determined at the same time. I find that … interesting. Perhaps his life as a free trader makes him intriguing to me or perhaps just ... I noticed he has blue eyes tonight. I can’t believe I had never noticed how very … blue they were. Then the fact that he dances well and knows just the right places to go helps too. The stars seemed to be brighter tonight too. I think it is the nebula we just entered the perhaps the cosmic dust makes the reflections seem brighter. It was a lovely ending to a beautiful evening, dancing under the stars.

However, I know to keep my guard up. A Starship is not the place to go soft. I can hear Avi as I make this log entry, “People don’t usually last long on a Starship, unless they are as hard as the Ship’s Hull and twice as protective as the Chief Engineer.” That is an engineer’s way of saying; keep a thick skin and a free running heart. As far as I know he stood by his words and never let anyone breach his hull or his heart. He always seemed so alone. Even after he found me and we grew close. You know I never really knew why. Why he kept me safe or why he chose to be alone.

BJ has said he would like to go riding soon and meet Shakor. I am not sure I am ready to share that part of myself fully yet, or any part for that matter. We will see.
