Background[edit]

H’retor’s father, Gi’ral, of the House of Moroth, is a warrior and also an intellectual and diplomat. He has been one of the rare Klingon who studied abroad. As an intellectual, Gi’ral has always been a pacifist and a progressist among the Klingon Empire. He was one of the few who fought for important reforms in the Empire. Greatly influenced by the Federation, he militated against killing people, even following to most dishonourable acts, and also fought for introducing women into the Klingon High Council, and make women equal with men in heritance. Gi’ral was also among the Klingon who criticized the Klingon Empire and mostly its leaders for the actual lost in values of the whole Empire. The values of courage, discipline, etc., were values that were highly important for the Klingon Empire during its history, but since the 2374 Civil War, these values has been lost and a lot of Klingons have let themselves gained by indiscipline, alcohol, sex, etc.

Gi’ral youth

Following the ratification of the treaty of alliance in 2353, Gi’ral went to a Federation university, as a “political decision” to increase the intermixing between the two ally. He spent four years studying politics in a Federation university and lived six years on a human world. He was also trained as a warrior when he was young and he is a very capable warrior, despite he preferred peace and diplomacy to war and fight. However, a change in leadership in the Klingon Empire started a change of philosophy between the Klingon and the Federation, and because he studied abroad, Gi’ral has then often been criticized by his fellow Klingon who was seeing him as week. Nevertheless, early, he had great relations with humans, which make him a very efficient diplomat, and he was often called by the Klingon Empire for matters with the Federation.

Gi'ral's early career

If Gi’ral was appreciated for his diplomatic skills, it took a few years before getting recognized as a worthy warrior. Coming back from the Federation, he was assigned on the IKS Hegh'ta as a engineer. During the nine years he served on the ship, he was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander and then to commander and served many years as the ship chief Engineer. As the IKS Hegh'ta CO was supporting Gorkon during the 2366-2368 Klingon Civil War, Gi'ral was in the front seat of the war. Once the civil war over, in 2369, Gi'ral was promoted as a second officer on the IKS Rho’ato.

The Klingon-Cardassian war

It was during the Klingon-Cardassian war that Gi’ral really get known in his Empire, and by the same way, helped his House become prosper again in the Empire. He was a key contributor in the strategies that helped the Klingon Empire won two of the most glorious battles in that war : the Battle of Almathia and the Battle of Golaris. Only a few month into the war, in large parts thanks to him, the IKS Rho'ato had become the command ship of a Klingon task force that fought many more battle during the Klingon-Cardassian war.

When the Romulan allied with the Cardassia, Gi’ral was called back to the Klingon Empire to protect the border from Romulan. He was made captain of the IKS SuvwL’Vaj, a Vorcha-class ship and was assigned to a defensive fleet protecting the Klingon Empire from Romulan attack.

The Second Civil War

The Klingon Second Civil War started when the chancellor Gorkon was assassinated following the controversial peace treaty that was signed with the Cardassian and Romulan. Ashamed by a treaty that was considered by many as a defeat, the Klingon Empire splitted into factions which led to a considerable chaos in the Empire. Gi'ral, along with his House, preferred however to remain aside of the civil war, and to improve their House relations with others as well as to defend the Empire against any Romulan invasion, while the other houses were fighting for power.

The Dominion War and the Federation Civil War

Gi'ral was still in command of the IKS SuvwL’Vaj when the Dominion War started in 2381. If the Klingon player a minor part in the conflict, they nevertheless contributed economically and by providing intelligence to the Federation, and later helped them during some assault.

In 2405, his ship was part of a task force commanded by Commander Kurge, whose task was to help the 52th fleet during his war against Doenitz, most notably at the battle of Valhalla and of sector 001. The ship was however severely damaged in the latter and would have been destroyed if it wasn’t the effort of the USS Hades. After the war, he was given a new ship: the IKS H’atoria, another Vorcha-class ship. Now, Gi’ral is Commodore/Amiral and command a task force stationed on H’atoria. He is still in command of the IKS H’atoria.

Gi'ral and the Federation[edit]

Gi’ral has great respect for the Federation and more especially, the 52nd fleet, and it is not only because he lived there for six years. He was involved in many political and diplomatic talks, including the talk preceding the Battle of Worf 359. Despite the decision came too late, Gi’ral played a key role convincing the Klingon Empire to help the Federation fight the Borg. In 2404, he was among the Klingon who contracted the Halla virus, but thanks to a Federation medical researcher, he was cured, him and his son. Remembering that it was the Federation who saved his life, when the Federation civil war started, Gi’ral offered to help the Federation and join the Task Force 19. During the war, he fought many battles with the Federation in their civil war. He fought along the Spectre during the battle of Vahlalla and along the USS Hades, USS Boudicca, etc. during the battle of sector 001. This was during that battle that the crew of the IKS SuvwL’Vaj was saved when the USS Hades, despite having to expose itself to enemy fires, destroyed the ship that would have given the final blow to an already crippled ship. Being saved two times by the Federation and having fight along with them, Gi’ral owed a great deal of honor and respect to the Federation. To pay his “honor debt”, Gi’ral sent his first son, H’retor, to join the Federation.
