Marine Corps Sniper Hymn

Starfleet Marine Snipers are a unique in that their training teaches them how to operate as individuals separate from a unit most of the time, and as with many other combat MOS's (pilots, Combat Engineers, MPs, among others) have developed an unofficial hymn for their trade, which is usually taught as a cadence for their marches while receiving their initial training.

Below are the lyrics to the hymn that SFMC Snipers view as their hymn. This is by no means official, and as their are various training schools throughout Federation space, there are some minor variations on lyrics and tune. The Lyrics here are the most popular lyrics to the hymn. The most popular tune is more a lament than a hymn, which most snipers find appropriate due to the nature of their job.

Lyrics[edit]

(The hymn is sung to the tune of the Newfoundland, Cananda folk tune, "The River Driver", as performed by the band, Great Big Sea. Here's an audio clip of "The River Driver", the original song from which the tune was borrowed.)

It was a year of heavy labor when my rifle was giv’n to me,
After weeks of work and study, a sniper I was to be
I was shipped out to the distant rim, and never have I moaned
Now I'm a Marine Sniper and I'm far away from home.

I'll fight when I am ordered and I’ll stalk my chosen prey
I’ll defend the Corps and my family, on the front lines I will stay
And if this war it don’t kill me, on my orders I will roam,
For I'm a Marine Sniper and I'm far away from home.

I'll fight on ship and station, I’ll fight on earth and sky,
I’ll fight where ever I’m needed until the day I die
My rifle and my spotter are all I’ll ever need
For I'm a Marine Sniper and I'm far away from home.

I'll fight when I am ordered and I’ll stalk my chosen prey
I’ll defend the Corps and my family, on the front lines I will stay
And if this war it don’t kill me, on my orders I will roam,
For I'm a Marine Sniper and I'm far away from home.

When I am old and feeble and in my sickness lie,
Just let me hold my rifle, and lay me down to die
Take my body and carry it back to were I come from
For I'm a Marine Sniper and I'm far away from home.

I'll fight when I am ordered and I’ll stalk my chosen prey
I’ll defend the Corps and my family, on the front lines I will stay
And if this war it don’t kill me, on my orders I will roam,
For I'm a Marine Sniper and I'm far away from home.

I'll fight when I am ordered and I’ll stalk my chosen prey
I’ll defend the Corps and my family, on the front lines I will stay
And if this war it don’t kill me, on my orders I will roam,
For I'm a Marine Sniper and I'm far away from home.
For I'm a Marine Sniper and I'm far away from home.
