Martin O'Shea the Man[edit]

Martin O'Shea was born to Gabriella and Ian O'Shea in Dublin Ireland. Despite the fact that the O'Sheas lived in New Dublin on Luna, Martin's father insisted that his son be born in "The Home Country". As a result the O'Shea Family lived in Dublin only long enough for travel to Luna was safe for the newborn Martin.

Martin's father Ian was a geologist whose greatest contribution to Lunar Geology was the categorization of Luminite structures found in underground caves found there. Martin's mother, Grabriella was a school teacher for the New Dublin Secondary Education System.

Martin's biological father died when the boy was 12 when a cavern that he was exploring unexpectedly collapsed without warning.

Two years later Martin's mother remarried. Her new husband was Michael Douglas O'Dell. They had a son and named him Mickie. Martin did not get along well with either stepbrother or stepfather and the three become somewhat estranged.

As Martin reached adolescence the schism between himself and the other male members of his family escalated. Constant arguments and confrontations took their toll and young Martin left home rather abruptly to attend College in Dublin.

Martin studied Statistics and Mechanical Engineering. He graduated with his Masters Degree after six years of solid study.

Martin joined the workforce only to find the work tedious and boring. He quickly grew unhappy and decided on the advice of a friend to join Starfleet Academy.

Martin studied Starship Engineering and Warp Dynamics at the Academy.

The Early Career Years[edit]

Commander Martin O'Shea was a gradute of the Starfleet Academy Class of 2397. He scored in the top 15 percentile of his class and was assigned to the USS Wyvern, A Nebula Class starship (NCC-660066-A). He began there as the ship's ACEO.

Over the years Martin advanced in rank, serving first as the ship's CEO. He served in that capacity for two years before being named third Officer at the rank of Lieutenant. Two years later O'Shea was promoted again to the position of Second Officer and Lieutenant commander aboard the Wyvern.

USS Wyvern

When the United Federation of Planets was plunged into civil war, Martin found himself promoted to the rank of Commander and the position of First Officer for the Wyvern under the command of Captain Angela Smithwick. Despite some personal reservations about the nature of Doenitz's rise to power, Martin continued to serve the UFP.

USS Forrester

For the first part of the civil war the Wyvern particiapted in basic security patrols which brought them into only limited conflict with elements of the 52nd fleet. The Wyvern was quickly making a reputation for itself when it captured the USS Forrester, A Nova Class Variant Ship (NCC-72701) commanded by Captain J'osrat Mathal. The larger more powerful vessel was surprised with her shields down and the Wyvern's security teams managed to board the vessel in quick order. The capture of the ship took place without a single loss of life. Commander Martin O'Shea led that boarding action personally and was awarded two commendations for his actions.

The Forrester was Martin's first taste of victory over an opponent during the civil war. He was pleased with his performance under stress and his confidence in his abilities grew.

The captured starship was taken back to Sector 001 where she was refitted and recrewed. That vessel currently serves in the 1st Defense Fleet assigned to protect Earth.

Worlds Once Lost[edit]

On Stardate 2407.02.24 the USS Wyvern received orders to patrol a sector of Space know as the Ivor Sector named for the Only Habitable Star System in the Sector. This system contained a long defunct federation Colony believed destroyed by the Borg.

USS Champlain

Captain Smithwick order the Nebula to the sector and the ship began a series of long range scans looking for any sign of ships from the seditionist 52nd Fleet operating in the area. After several days of fuitless searches, The Wyvern turned her attention to the planet of Ivor Prime where she discovered the USS Champlain. A three nacelled Galaxy class variant belonging to the 52nd Fleet.

Smithwick ordered an immediate attack despite O'Shea's warnings of caution. In the end the Wyvern was forced to retreat, when the Champlain utilized modified shuttles to mimic the Champlain's sensor signature. The Wyvern escaped suffering some significant damage. The Champlain chose not to pursue the damaged vessel. The Wyvern put in to Starbase DS-6 for repairs before heading out again in search of the Champlain. Captain Smithwick took a personal interest in the vessel and soon became obsessed with the destruction of the larger ship.

The Wyvern returned to the Ivor system looking for any sign of the Champlain. After searching the remainder of the system and that two other adjacent systems, the Wyvern was forced to give up the chase, but only for a short while. It wasn't long before fate would bring the Wyvern and the Champlain back together again.

In the interim, The Wyvern locates and captures a shuttlecraft carrying Ensign Moto transferring from the USS Paladin, a ship of the 52nd fleet. Moto is ordered incarcerated. He is to be conveyed back to Earth to stand trial for treason and sedition.

Beyond Vengeance[edit]

On Stardate 2407.03.14 The Tactical Offcier of the USS Wyvern detects a federation warp signature in an adjacent Star System. Despite any proof, Captain Smithwick is convinced the signature belongs to the USS Champlain. She orders the Wyvern to the system at high speed.

Upon arriving at the outskirts of the system, Captain Smithwick orders the Wyvern to engage their cloaking device and scan the system. The Wyvern crew discover that the USS Champlain is in the process of a first contact situation with an as of yet unidentified hostile species. Smithwick at O'Shea's urging orders the Wyvern to hold position and see what develops. However once the Champlain withdraws from what is quickly becoming a military engagement, Smithwick orders the Wyvern into action.

In once swift maneuver, she orders the vessel to drop it's cloak and target the Champlain's bridge. In this manner, Smithwick hopes to kill off the Champlain's command staff and render the ship combat ineffective. The maneuver is only partiall successful, as the Captain and CMO are killed outright. The First officer is incapacitated during the initial attack as well.

The Champlain recovers quickly under the leadership of Breanna Frazier, who orders Lieutenant junior Grade Jono Janeway to board the small ship once her shield generators are destroyed. Once the boarding parties are aboard the Wyvern Smithwick attempts to ram the Champlain. She is partially successful, causing damage to the larger vessel's third nacelle.

Martin relieves her of command and assumes the position of Commander. Martin desperately attempted to withdraw the Wyvern from the battle with the champlain, but in the end he failed.

Martin attempted to draw a cease fire with the larger vessel, but that tactic also failed. in the end martin was forced to surrender his vessel when a former Wyvern crewman, turned seditionist James Alexander, threatened to destroy the Wyvern by causing the Warp Core Containment Field to fail. Martin capitulated and surrendered the ship to Lieutenant Jono Janeway.

Janeway gave him his parole in order to assist in organizing the repairs suffered by the Wyvern. Martin was true to the terms of his parole and he organized and commanded the repair efforts with the aid of the Wyvern's Chief Engineer Carson Purdue.

Crossroads[edit]

The Wyvern was placed in Drydock to allow the replacement of the vessel's destroyed Tactical Shield Generators. During this time Martin was turned over to 52nd Fleet intelligence operatives for debriefing and interrogation.

As a result of his interaction with Lieutenant Janeway and prior prisoner Sam Moto, Martin realized that he was fighting on the wrong side of the war. He cooperated fully with the authorities and was tried for his role in Captain Wolfe's death.

Martin was exhonerated when evidence became available indicating that it was Captain Smithwick who attacked the Champlain despite Martin's warnings. The captain was found mentally unable to stand trial and was remitted to a mental hospital for therapy.

Janeway's testimony to the review board was instrumental in assuring that Martin was not stripped of his rank. In fact, he was promoted to captain of the USS Wyvern, now in the service of the 52nd Fleet and assigned a new crew.

Martin oversaw some refits of the ship at Starbase Geneva before being ordered to join the USS Champlain in preparation of a Final assault against the Mars Defense Perimeter.

Do Not Go Gently[edit]

TF-19 gathering at Tellar

The USS Wyvern was assigned to join Task Force 19 in their attack on the Mars Defense Perimeter. The ship arrived at the TF staging point at Tellar and assumed her position as a member of the Champlain's battle group.

Task Force 19 was divided into several Battle Groups.

The A- battle group consisted of 4 Negh'var battleships and their 16 ship escort. Their task was to use their superior range and firepower to weaken the Battle platforms that comprised the MDF.

The B- battle group was led by the USS Boudicca . This force was ordered to breach the MDF and make a dash for Valhalla Station in an attempt to render the nerve center for the MDF inoperative and thereby shutting down the entire defense perimeter.

TF-19 the A, B and C Battle Groups

The C- Battlegroup was led by the USS Champlain. This force was assigned to screen the B-Battlegroup against any attacks by enemy ships. It is to this Battle group that the Wyvern was assigned.

After arriving at the staging point, Martin contacted Lieutenant and now Third Officer Jono Janeway and invited him aboard the Wyvern for an excellent meal.
