Physical Description[edit]

Kriosians possess a smattering of spots along the sides of their face, that lead to their back, and come to a point about halfway down their spine (not unlike the markings seen on Trill).

All, or almost all, of Aila’s physical characteristics are subject to gradual variation, depending on who may be near enough to induce her to imprint.

History, Education and Skills[edit]

Family and Background[edit]

Given Name: Meggan Puceanu

Preferred Alias: Ailahteleva, or Aila H. Televa

Meggan Puceanu is a Kriosian “empathic metamorph” (EM). She has no actual family. She is a clone of Kamala, who was wed to Chancellor Alrik of Valt Minor in 2368. While in 2414, the original Kamala would be near or over 50, Meggan is just under half that age (23.5), though precisely when the genetic material was harvested from Kamala is not known to Meggan. [She probably does not even know who she is a clone of, or even if there are more like her.] Meggan lived all of her pre-Academy life in a Federation holoship. Held there as part of an experimental program to test the viability of creating whatever sort of personnel might be needed, Meggan lived a life designed by others. Meggan was created at the behest of “The Admiral” – a person Meggan knows little else about. She suspects this was Admiral Doenitz but has no actual proof. Prior to her eventual rescue from her holoship confinement, two of the most notable of the various simulations to which she was subjected were representations of Sigma Iotia II (as part of a study in imitative imprinting), and the Trill homeworld (based on the observation that outwardly Meggan could pass for an unjoined Trill). These oft-reused settings were to have a profound impact on Meggan’s personality. Though sequestered until the age of seventeen, Meggan bears little conscious ill-will toward those who essentially jailed her. The reason for this is because female Kriosian EM’s are traditionally separated from their families very early and shipped off to be trained as ‘perfect mates.’ Since this would likely have been her fate had she actually been born on Krios Prime (rather than cloned in a Federation lab), Meggan believes its immaterial who would have managed her early life – The Admiral’s staff or “her own people.”

Education[edit]

Starfleet Academy, where she performed ‘As Expected.’ (This remark, of course, had different connotations depending on the Professor using it.)

Pre-Starfleet History[edit]

Holoship simulations of a great variety of locations and situations.

Starfleet History[edit]

After her release from her holo-prison, Meggan could not shake the loyalty to Starfleet that had been inculcated by the Admiral's staff. She applied to and was accepted for Starfleet Academy. She majored in Operations. Due to her odd upbringing, Meggan was (and remains somewhat) naive in many aspects of culture. The Academy brought her up to speed for the most part. There are however still areas in which she is 'confused'. Most of her professors took her for a Trill and treated her as such. Those aware of her actual heritage (but not circumstances) steadily ‘raised the bar’ with regard to what they would ask of Meggan. She never disappointed any Professor. This resulted in her having a reputation (among faculty) for diligence. It also gave rise to the rumor that she didn’t sleep (among her classmates). At some point during her years as a cadet, Meggan confided in only one member of the Academy staff what had actually happened to her prior to enrollment. The staffer (of Finnish ancestry) ultimately encouraged her to reject the name given her by her captors and take a name of her own choosing – one that suited her better. Misunderstanding, somewhat, what the staff member really intended, Meggan chose a name based on an Old-Earth Finnish word: Ailahteleva, meaning ‘varying’, but also ‘volatile’ or even ‘mercurial’ or ‘capricious’. It implies swaying or rocking in a continuous back-and-forth manner, sometimes suddenly or rapidly. Colloquially, it can mean ‘moody’. Literally it means ‘as one (or as it) pleases.’ When placed in an entirely new situation or extraordinarily unfamiliar setting, a lack of confidence can be “Aila’s” weakness. (A former ‘warden’ of hers once observed that a self-confident Meggan would be ‘much more threatening’.) It was not until she was nearing completion of her Academy training (with the continued advice and assistance of her Finnish mentor) that she began to be able to exert a more conscious control over her metamorphoses. She still struggles with this, but practices … diligently.

Medical History[edit]

Aila is a clone, and is subject to ailments to which clones are susceptible. She is also Kriosian empathic metamorph who has been subjected to mental/emotional and genetic tampering. One procedure administered has resulted in the indefinite extension of her Finiis’ral – the condition that makes her able to imprint on whatever individual (or group) is being held up as a model for her behavior. There were, indeed, other such tamperings – not all of them successful or even having lasting impact. However, one of her ‘wardens’ developed a plan for determining what would happen if an empathic metamorph, already able to change to suit the desires of those around her, were subjected to high doses of a contraband material colloquially known as the “Venus Drug.” This long-term course of ‘medication’ has resulted in Aila being a Venus addict, a condition for which she now needs regular treatment.

Skills[edit]

Aila excels at adaptive learning. Her environment during her formative years made her especially adept at spotting inconsistencies, giving her a talent for trouble-shooting (and writing) holo-programs. She is also trained in hand-to-hand combat techniques expected of a Starfleet Academy graduate.

Other Information[edit]

Hobbies[edit]

Gambling. Holo-novels

General Notes[edit]

Aila has a great fondness for both Iotian and Trill cultures. She will occasional act the part of the Iotian gun moll. She also speaks fluent Trill.

She habitually carries a tricorder – depending upon it to make objective judgments – and she suffers anxiety if separated from a trustworthy sensor device. She even sleeps with it under her pillow.

Aila has a great affection for Wonderland and Looking-Glass, identifying with a girl trapped in a world of unreality.

Empathic Metamorphosis: Aila's empathy enables her to sense the emotions of sentient living creatures. This ability gives given her an affinity for languages and other communications systems. Her empathic powers also make her sensitive to surrounding moods, and she will subconsciously (and sometimes consciously) alter her facial features and overall physical appearance depending on situations in which she finds herself. Although she retains better control of her form as an adult, Aila may exhibit entirely involuntary changes when she is under stress. She is somewhat vulnerable to certain telepathic manipulation. She can also be very negatively affected by dark emotions and she is particular at risk if in the company of superstitious/fearful people. She may reflexively give actual form to the anxieties of those around her. In an extreme such situation, those that perceive her to be (or expect her to become) a monster might actually cause her to become one. She would ultimately manifest the traits they imagine she possesses.

Conjecture: Given enough time, she could conceivably adapt to an inhospitable environment, but the conditions of her surroundings would have not be inherently or immediately lethal. And there must be someone present who expects that she will survive the ordeal. For example, she might be expected to grow fur to adapt to extreme cold. She would still have to have enough time to affect the metamorphosis since her physical changes do take time. Any such climate that would instantly freeze living tissue would still cause her to die of exposure. No such transmogrification has arisen yet, but it is a theoretical possibility. Also not outside the realm of the possible but (again) a condition that she has never been experienced, is that she could gradually mimic/adopt non-Kriosian, species-specific characteristics – if the stimulus to do so was great or long enough. This could have the effect of letting her adopt physical and/or mental abilities not typically associated with her own species.
