The refugee Camp on Beta Aquillia IV in 2414

A Refugee Camp is a temporary settlement built to receive refugees. Hundreds of thousands of individuals may live in any one single camp. Usually they are built and run by a government, Starfleet, or another interstellar organization. Individuals may stay in these camps, receiving emergency food and medical aid, until it is safe to return to their homes. Although camps are intended to be temporary, it is possible for camps to remain in place for decades.

Camps are commonly established following major disasters such as tectonic instability, flooding or extreme weather. Other reasons include civil strife in the form of Civil War which may displace people along the battle lines, or medical epidemics.

In 2414, the USS Rosenante was dispatched to Beta Aquillia IV to establish a refugee camp for Aquillian Civilians that were displaced as a result of the Coup that was raging between the government and the pro-isolationist group Veil of the Sky.

Despite best efforts, the camp was bombed by two suicide bombers killing dozens of displaced Aquillians and injuring even more. The Federation was forced to ask for military assistance from the Skorr for security support.

The refugee camp was abandoned when it no longer became tenable.
