History[edit]

The Galaxy Class starship entered service in 2353 marking the crowning achievement of almost seventy-five years of engineering advancements starting with the Transwarp Development Project in the late 22nd century. With two variants in service, the Galaxy Class has serviced the Federation and Starfleet.

Initial production of the Galaxy Class began at the Advanced Starship Design Bureau Integration Facility, Utopia Planitia, Mars.

The tri-nacelle variant of the Galaxy Class produces additional power that can be channelled to the engines or to any other system that the mission requires.

Because of the few tri-nacelled ships in the fleet, the warp field dynamics required a few special Chief Engineer.

Separated Flight Mode[edit]

Seperated Flight Mode is different when compared to any other starship in Federation history. The Galaxy Class is the first vessel designed to recombine without the aid of a starbase facility. Separated Flight Mode describes the set of operational procedures when the vessel is performing a saucer separation maneuver. Detailed information on these operating procedures can be found in any Starfleet Database.

Landing Mode[edit]

The Galaxy Class was designed to complete an emergency saucer landing. This is a one-way trip. The saucer section is too large to return to orbit intact. Once landed the vessel will meet one of two fates. The first is to be slowly dismantled if the vessel landed on a friendly planet. The second fate is to be destroyed if the vessel landed in or near enemy territory.

Security Breakdown[edit]

  • 125 Tac/Sec (On whole ship)
  • 5 officers in department
  • 3 Security Platoon’s (40 personnel each Platoon)
  • 6 Security Demi-Platoon (20 personnel each Demi-Platoon)
  • 12 Security Squads with 10 personnel and one officer leading

Each Demi-platoon has its own staging area on Deck 15 and weapons locker adjacent to this.

Weapons/Armour used by Security Officers[edit]

Security Weapons:

  • Combat knife – Any personnel wishing to carry a knife in combat, has to do so with the permission of the ships Security Chief.
  • Type VI Security Phaser – Normal weapon to be holstered by security personnel while on duty.
  • Type IV Security Phaser Rifle – Weapon stored in security small arms lockers, throughout the ship, issued upon the security chiefs/assistant chief’s discretion – Normally used in ship breaches or forward attacks on enemy vessels/stations.
  • Modified Security, Auxiliary Grenade Launcher (MSAGL) – Stored only on deck 15 in a medium arms locker, 20 kept on the ship for security purposes. This weapon is a compacted version of a weapon the Marines have employed in recent combat, although it is not as powerful it is on trial aboard the USS Champlain to assess it’s effectiveness in helping to repel boarders – it can also be mounted. Only to be used by Security Grenadiers; one in each squad.
  • Photon Grenades – Kept in small arms lockers throughout the ship, it is deployed throughout the ranks at the chief security/assistant chief of security officers discretion.
  • Flash Bang/Stun Grenades – Kept in small arms lockers throughout the ship, it is deployed throughout the ranks at the chief security/assistant chief of security officer’s discretion. A common weapon used throughout the civil war, to needless death on both sides.

Security Armour:

  • Security SDU (Standard Dress Uniform) – Day to day security attire, used generally by security personnel while on duty. It offers slightly more protection than a normal Starfleet personnel uniform as it is padded out with Neo-Kevlar mesh in sensitive area to dull any blasts the officer make take, hand-to-hand or by a Phaser.
  • Security BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) – A more powerful armour issued to both Starfleet Marine Corps and Starfleet Security personnel. While the Field BDU is a little heavier than the SDU armouring, it offers a variety of more options for a security officer in a combat situation… Allowing well trained officers to adapt to a variety of different situations.
  • Pallas Helmet – The pallas helmet again is issued to both the Starfleet Marine Corps and Starfleet Security personnel, the helmet while helping to protect the officers head from blasts or hand-to-hand combat also employs several differing systems allowing the officer equipped with this helmet to bring up a variety of options on their VISOR while in combat. With advanced communications systems inside it, including a short range ‘infer-red’ helmet to helmet communications discreetly

Internal Ship defences[edit]

  • Internal Force fields (Intensity 1 -10), commonly used to protect prisoners in the ‘brig’ area they can be deployed throughout the ship by command of any senior officer or command unit.
  • Spinal Mounted Phaser Turret (Full 360 rotation), these are small turrets which deploy from ceiling and can be set through the tactical interface panel on both the bridge and in engineering. These Phaser turrets can be set to different settings via the tactical interface, although don’t have much protection against any retaliation, slow to recharge and easy to target they are primarily used to slow any advancing boarding parties down.
  • Tactical Holographic System (THS), this system takes its inspiration and is largely an adaptation of the EMH, first employed in the Intrepid Class vessels. Adapting from this, holographic emitters placed around the ship produce HSP, (Holographic Security personnel) which although are unable to inflict harm or damage to an enemy target, are used to confuse, manipulate and in essence delay boarding parties. This system is another recent development installed aboard the USS Champlain on trial although initial tests show positive results.
