PX 1354

PX 1354 is a Magnetar located in the Beta Quadrant on the fringes of the United Federation of Planets. In 2413, the magnetar was beginning to show signs of finally transitioning to a completely dead star. The USS Hades was sent to investigate and to conduct scientific studies of the transitional stages of the magnetar, since there had never been a concerted study of the event prior.

The magnetar possesses a molten liquid iron surface and was subject to infrequent gamma ray bursts. Initially, these bursts were thought to be very unlikely, but during the time that the Hades was conducting their studies, they observed no less than Three Gamma Ray Bursts.

The initial study was abandoned when the Hades received orders to locate a missing starship the USS Onyx, which had lost contact with Starfleet Command during a diplomatic mission.

Later it was determined that the Magnetar's gamma ray burst had interacted with the Onyx's Warp Drive and created a fractured subspace layer along in their immediate area.

The Hades located the Onyx adrift in space without power, they later suffered an unexplainable power loss as well and were soon in desperate straights. It was determined that the shattered subspace strata was creating an area so badly damaged by the events, that dimensional fragments were bleeding over into the prime universe. These fragments caused the disappearance of some of the Hades crew and were presumably also responsible for the disappearance of the Onyx crew as well.

The laws of physics in the affected region of space did not function as they did within the confines of N-Space, which was one of the explanations for the sudden loss of power and the observed lack of radioactive decay.

As a result of these dangers a broad area surrounding PX 1354 was marked as a navigational hazard zone.

PX 1354 was first seen in the USS Hades Mission: Sphere of Terror
