| This speech was given by Then Colonel Michelle Roberts to the formative forces of the 1st Expeditionary Force.

| <blockquote><i>"Marines, Welcome to the First Marine Expeditionary Force. I am your Commanding Officer, Colonel Michelle Leah Roberts; let me be the first to welcome you." She paused for a moment, "And the first to warn you. We have been given the Duty, and the Honor, and the Hardship of overseeing the first line of our own defense. We have a hard mission ahead, one that we have spent our careers training for. In these difficult times, we need each and every one of you more then ever before."

| She looked out over the assembled crowd once more, "You know as well as I do why we are doing this, we are fighting our own for the right, to prevent a coward from taking over what we love and making it into something ugly. We have been called upon to make the same sacrifice that every ship in the fleet has been making for months, and I trust we will do it well."

| The EFCO took a step to the side so she could better be seen. She was lean, fit, not someone to mess with. "I am not a politician, and neither are any of you." She said after many long moments. "The 'hows' and the 'whys' of what we are doing don't matter a bit. I've heard a lot of grumbling by a lot of people as to what we are doing, right or wrong. I don't give a good d*mn, I heard enough to know that I want to be in this fight. If any of you don't think you can be part of this venture because of future political aspirations, I've got an airlock you can walk out just as soon as we've humped ourselves onto the freighters. I've also heard several people call our Commanding Officer LoDona Satan Himself, trying to lead us into the darkest depths of the underworld."

| Michelle grinned slightly, and in a strong voice with a definite purr she said, "Guess what, they're wrong." Her grin disappeared utterly, "How do I know that? Because -I- Am the Devil, and I will personally send the first one of you that screws up STRAIGHT. TO. HELL."

| The Marine looked to both sides, "I trust I make myself clear?" she said, reverting back to her sultry, dangerous voice.

| "HOOOOOOOOOOOOOWAH, SIR!" came the vibrant response from most, if not all five hundred plus men and women.

| "Good." she said simply. "Prepare to fall out; further orders will be given on board your troop ships. Ice River Company is assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk. Pride and Power gets the USS Oriskany. And finally, the Black Company gets the USS John C Stennis." She grinned, "Now we get to earn our pay, boys and girls. Chief of the DECK!" she finished with a bellow.

| A Marine stepped forward, one of the few she had confirmed into her working Hierarchy of command, and one of the two Company Commanders she had going along for the ride. She knew him; hence she had picked him as Temporary XO and Chief of the Deck during this gathering. He stood at perfect attention, "Sir!"

| Michelle maintained her loose-parade stance, "Chief, do you know who these Marines are standing in front of me?"

| "Sir, These men and women form your Command, the First Marine Expeditionary Force, Sir!"

| "They bare proud names, don't they Chief?"
| |

| "Very Proud, Sir!"

| Michelle looked over, "They represent fine people?"

| "Very fine, Sir!"

| "Who live and work for a fine, outstanding Fleet?"

| "In the Greatest Corps ever put together by a Government in the Entire Galaxy?"

| Michelle stepped forward a pace, "And what do we say in this Force, Chief?"

| The CO joined in this time, in perfect cadence with the Temp-XO, bellowing the motto of the First Expeditionary. "ALL THEIR DAYS ARE NUMBERED, VICTORY OR DEATH. HOO-WAH!"

| "Chief of the Deck." She said loudly after several long seconds and several return cheers by the men.
