(BCSS Kodess – Bridge - Liaison Officer, Commander – Jay - 2300)


Jay suppressed a smile as her breath misted in front of her. She pulled her thermal jacket closer around her to keep in as much warmth as possible as the turbolift came to a halt and she clapped her gloved hands together to keep the circulation flowing. The doors opened and she stepped onto the now familiar bridge. The bridge was full of Breen officers at there various stations.
She saw Pred Gal the ships commanding officer in the command chair and waited for him to give her permission move to him. 

She felt a slight tinge of sadness that her assignment was going to end. As assignments had been it had been worth while and achieved much. She had been given a long term assignment with the Breen and total access to the Kodess and her crew the only two restrictions was that Gal would review all her reports for anything that might endanger the Breen confederation as the Kodess was a ship of war she would have a personal bodyguard at all times that she was out of her personal quarters. He was called trooper Sins, had become her shadow and was standing slightly behind her at that time? On a personal note her body was looking forward a hot bath when she finally left the ship, her fingers and toes had never seemed to warm up while she had been on board. 

She saw Pred Gal look over at her and indicated her for her to come over to him. As she stepped over she realised she would miss the Kodess’s commanding officer. He had been instrumental in the agreement that had been set up between the Breen Confederation and the Federation. Since then Breen and Federation relations had not always been cordial and some time out right hostile but it looked like things were going to change hopefully for the better. Pred Gal had been sent to carry on the talks with the Federation and Jay hoped that this might start to bring the two together but that was a long way off.

Pred turned to her and emitted a string of high pitched noise at her. It took a few seconds for the universal translator ear peace to change it into something she could understand.

^We are about to arrive at the coordinates and will be coming out of warp in 30 seconds^

(BCSS Kodess - Bridge - Liaison Officer, Commander – Jay – 2305)


Jay watched the main view screen as the stars fell back into place as the ship dropped out of warp. In front of her was not the approach to earth but the burning remains of a starship. As they approached small objects emerged from the hull and sped away. 

~Escape pods, There goes my hot bath. Lovely~

She was jerked from her thoughts as one of the Breen began to emit a rapid string of high pitched noise. It took a moment for the ear peace to translate when was being said.

^Sir the Federation ship is classified as the USS Barb^

She saw a blur in the view screen.

~Oh ow~

^Sir a ship has de-cloaked on the far side of the federation ship.  We are being target^

^We get the right to defend our selves where ever we are. Tactical ready weapons and raise shie….^

The deck dropped as the ship was ravaged by phaser fire. Jay was flung across the floor and slammed into a console. Her ear peace fell out of her ear as the room was filled with the high pitched noise of the Breen. She scrambled across the floor and scooped the ear peace off the cold chilly floor and jammed it back into place.

^Helm pursuit coarse, tactical identify that vessel^

^Sir the vessel has identified its self^

^Well Tactical, do not keep me guessing?^

^Sir it is called the USS Spectre^

~The Spectre but why~

^Sir what about the survivors of the USS Barb^

^Tactical track the Spectre. Operations prepare to transport the survivors of the Barb. Engineering give me a report^

(BCSS Kodess – Medical bay - Liaison Officer, Commander – Jay – 2330)


Jay watched as the Barb’s crew were being treated by the Kodess medical personal. They had increased the temperature of the medical bay so that the Starfleet crew would not freeze.

A woman stood up and tried to get off the bed.  Jay quickly crossed over to her.

“We need to get away from here. It’s not safe.”

Jay placed a hand on her chest and gave her a reassuring smile

“It is okay you are safe. You are on the Kodess a Breen ship. I’m Commander Jay the Diplomatic Corps Liaison Officer.”

The woman nodded.

“I’m Lieutenant Commander Longestride Operations Officer of the Barb. We were on the way to earth to escort Admiral LoDona to the GC summit at Khitomer. Were attacked out of no where by the Spectre…”

~Andrew what have you gotten your self in to~

She gave a hacking cough.

“…The bridge crew were all killed apart from me. I was lucky to escape. How is the crew…”

“Shush. The crew is safe and so are you. Now take it easy.”

“The Spectre is going to kill the Admiral it’s the only reason to attack us specifically. We need to get a message to Earth.”

Longstride tried to got off the medical bed but she bent double coughing. Jay helped her back onto the bed.

“Easy, easy. You need to rest. Let us deal with it now.”

She turned and stepped away from Longestride and the other wounded. She would return later and see if there was anything she could do but she needed to tell Gal first so she headed for the bridge.

(BCSS Kodess - Bridge - Liaison Officer, Commander – Jay – 2345)


Pred Gal turned back to the view screen after Jay had told him of what Longstride had said.

^This is a Federation matter. They attacked us^

He said at last before turning back to face her. She knew that he had the right not to do what she had asked. It was not his problem. He could easily turn the ship around and go home.

“Commander you know that there are many in the Federation who do not want our two species to be come allies. Not going to earth and informing Starfleet would just prove to those people that this alliance is worthless and all the effort that we have put in would be for nothing.”

There was a pause before Gal answered.

^We will go to earth and delver the message. There are people in the Breen Confederacy who would also be happy for this not to work.^

There was a slight pause before he continued. 

^The attack has damaged our engines and out communications we can only make warp 5 and have no way to communicate with the Federation until we reach the system^

He looked back at the view screen.

^Helm. Set course to earth maximum speed^

She watched as the star field elongated as the ship jumped to warp.

~I hope we get there in time~

Day: 28

Stardate: 2414.01.08


(BCSS Kodess - Bridge - Liaison Officer, Commander – Jay – 15:00)


The Kodess dropped out of warp at the outer markers of the Sol system. 

^Unidentified Breen vessel this is Starfleet transit control please identify your self^

Gal turned his head toward her and she nodded as she stepped forward towards the view screen. She realised that she could not speak openly on any channel secure or not to transit control. She needed to speak to Admiral Birdsong he would know what to do. 

“Starfleet Transit Control this is Liaison Officer Jay on the Breen Confedery Starship Kodess in bound to earth. We are on conjoined diplomatic mission for the Federation Council and Starfleet diplomatic Corps. We also have a medical emergency. We were attacked by a Starfleet ship as we came to the aid of another we need medical assistance to transfer the wounded to a Starfleet facility and a priority communication with Admiral Birdsong.”

~I can trust him~

There was a pause before she got her reply.

^That will not be necessary Kodess we have the situation under control. Proceed at impulse until you reach outer marker gamma six. We will be sending a medical team for the wounded and a security team to take statements^

They were stone walling her and sending them to an out of the way place. She frowned as she wondered about their reply.

“Starfleet Transit Control this is Liaison Officer Jay on the Kodess re-requsting priority message to Admiral Birdsong.”

^This is Starfleet Transit Control we are on a state of high alert. All transit in system has been stopped and all but the essential communication is authorised. If you deviate from our instructions we will be forced to fire upon you this is your only warning. Proceed to outer marker gamma six where a medical shuttle will be arriving shortly^

She saw Gal nod at she he had heard.

“Understood Starfleet Transit Control. Proceeding at impulse to outer marker gamma six . Kodess out.”

Jay felt the Kodess swing onto its new course that it had been given by Transit Control.

(BCSS Kodess – Main shuttle bay - Liaison Officer, Commander – Jay – 1530)


Jay watched as the medical runabout moved into its final approach. Space had been made for it on the shuttle bay deck close to the main doors so that the patients could be transferred to it quickly. She watched as the runabout came through the barrier and performed a perfect landing near the main doors. As the runabout’s engines powered down the main hatch opened and a group of men in Starfleet medical uniforms emerged. One split off from the group and walked over to her. She watched as he stopped in front of her.

“Lieutenant Peterson. From Fleet Medical I’m here to pick up some patient’s from you.”

She nodded.

“I’m Commander Jay the Liaison Officer on board and this is trooper Sins. Thank you for arriving so quickly. If you would come this way I’ll show you the way.”
 
As she began to turn away from Peterson as she noticed his right arm begin to rise, hidden in the palm of his hand was a palm phaser.

~Ow no~

There was no way she could get the phaser off him before he opened fire so she did the first thing that came to mind. Her fist lasted out and slammed into Peterson. Blood exploded from his mouth and the crack of his jaw reverberated around the shuttle bay. Peterson was already dropping unconscious to the floor as his companions opened fire with phaser rifles. She stood there looking down at Peterson as the phaser bolts began to zap around her.

~What the hell is going on~

“Kill them all.” Came a yell from the runabout.

Suddenly she was bodily thrown out of the way behind a pile of crates. 

As she landed hard on the deck she looked up to see Sins kneeling next to her as he returned fire at the runabout. 

“Thank you.”

He nodded at her before ducking behind the crate as it was peppered with phaser fire. 

^There are more of them emerging from the runabout. If we do not do anything soon we will be flanked^

She lifted her head from behind the crate she was hiding behind to have a better look. There was a group of about fifteen soldiers emerging from the runabout al heavily armed as they began to return fire and spread out.

~They can’t be allowed to leave the shuttle bay. They would cause havoc before the situation to come under control~ 

She turned to Sins as an idea sprung to mind.

“They are not wearing environmental suits. Do an emergency decompression of the shuttle bay. They will get sucked out and then you can snatch them by transporter.”

Sins looked at her for a moment before nodding.

^I will inform the bridge^ 

She could almost hear the grin over the string of high pitched noise that emitted from his helmet. 

He levelled his weapon snapped off a couple of shots at a group of approaching enemy. Suddenly Jay heard a siren begin to wail and then there was a loud pop as the force field surrounding the shuttle bay entrance vanished. A howling gale instantly screamed in her ears she felt strong invisible hands drag her towards the open shuttle bay doors and the blackness of space beyond. She heard the screams of the enemy soldiers as they were thrown into space. She stuck her head above the crates and saw the soldiers begin to dematerialise as they left the shuttle bay. 

~Good it looks like we are nearly done~

Suddenly the crate she was hanging onto gave way and she was flung forward onto the shuttle bay floor. She felt the invisible hands dragging her fast across the shuttle bay floor and towards cold blackness of space. Her hand and feet scrabbled at the floor to find any purchase at would stop her but to no avail. Something hard slammed into the side of her, the force flicked her into the air and out through the shuttle bay doors.

Day: 30

Stardate: 2414.01.10


(Earth - Starfleet Medical  – Surgical Wing - Liaison Officer, Commander – Jay – 0920)


Jay woke slowly letting her mind fill the space around her. She could hear the soft bleeping of equipment and the low hum of voices in the distance.
She opened her eyes and looked at the two medical personal who were working at a console not so far away before her eyes flicked to the older man sitting by a chair next to her bio-bed reading a PADD.

“Nice to see you Admiral.”

Birdsong looked up from his PADD and smiled.

“Nice to see that you have finally woken. Have you had a good sleep.”

She smiled again.

“It is never enough sir. What’s happened. Where an I?”

Birdsong gave a quick nod to the medical personal who quickly left the room and put his PADD down beside her.

“Well a few things have happened since to shot yourself into space. If I may say so my self it was not the best plan you could have made.”

“It was not exactly how I planned it Sir.”

Birdsong nodded.

“You were teleported to the Kodess as soon as they realised that you were EVA. A member of the crew called Sins I think tried to grab you but you had already shot out the shuttle bay. He then raised the alarm and they transported you to their sickbay.” 

~I ow you Sins its not the first time~

“You were in a bad way from the exposure and the nasty whack you had taken as you went out. Your condition was serious but the Kodess was not prepped for the kind of care you needed. Pred Gal contacted me directly after some precise comments to Starfleet Transit Control and we got you transferred to Starfleet medical. You have been her for a few days after the surgery but I’ve been told that you have been doing well. We felt that it would be wiser to place you in an isolation unit as that the peoples thoughts you would be in contact with would be few.”

~Thank you Pred~

Jay paused to take everything in what Birdsong had said before she asked another question and then nodded. 

“Sir why were we attacked?” 

“Well that is rather complicated but from what we found out was that the Donalts cell in Starfleet that wanted things back to the old days. They managed to disable the Spectre and take its place. They were trying to make out the Spectre had gone rouge and then disband the 25th fleet. Before they could reach earth, the real Spectre had managed to get a message to earth saying that there was a second Spectre on the louse heading towards earth.” 

“The false Spectre realised that they were going to have to change their disguise so they chose the USS Barb instead but before they could destroy it you arrived and spoiled everything. Although they got away and you were damaged they panicked when you eventually turned up at earth with evidence of what they had done. We gathered from what we could get from Doenitz’s men and woman that we were able to capture thanks to you was that they would try and capture the Kodess. They would then attack the real Spectre who was already in the system and warp away.”

“What’s happened to the crew of the Barb and the Spectre Sir?”

“The crew of the Barb were all transferred to Starfleet medical for treatment and there is an ongoing review on the Spectres crew.”

Jay nodded as she took it all in. 

~It really a tangled web of deceit that had been woven around the whole affair~ 

“So Sir what happens to me? My liaison mission was to finish when the Kodess arrived here as the diplomatic corps would go to Khitomer and I would be reassigned back to earth. I know it was only a few months but…”

A sly smile crossed Birdsong’s face.

“I had a discreet word with Pred Gal before he left and we came to the same conclusion that having you on board the Kodess had been a good idea and had brought our two closer together in a better understanding in the months that you have been on board. So as soon as you have recovered from you wounds and have had a descent amount of R&R you are to report to the Breen Confederation Starship Kodess.”

A grin spread across Jay’s face.

~Ow yes~

“Thank you sir.”

Birdsong got up from his chair and scooped up his PADD.

“Don’t thank me. You have had a lot in brining the Breen and the Federation together. Now Commander I don’t want to see you in my office for another two months. When you return I’ll give you your orders. See you then.”

He gave her a stern look before a small smile dance across his lips. 

“Yes Admiral. I’ll certainly will.”

He stood up and gave her a nod before leaving.

She lay back on the bio-bed with a smile spreading across her face.
