| Almost Immediately upon entering the planet's magnetosphere problems began. Systems all over the Danube Class Runabout Rameses began to fail unexpectedly. They were not damaged, yet somehow they simply stopped functioning. this was later determined to be caused by interference caused by the Quantum Signature of Iradon. Matthew McLaren, who was piloting, managed to put the shuttle down smoothly enough to prevent any serious injuries, although the roughness of the landing was enough to cause additional damage to the shuttle craft. To make matters less appealing, it was discovered that all of their personal equipment was inoperable, a result of the same energetic affect that had caused the systems on the shuttlecraft to fail. Without equipment, there was little that could be determined about the strange affect that was sapping their devices. It was quickly surmised by the engineer that the effect was most similar to an energy dampening field. | | Almost Immediately upon entering the planet's magnetosphere problems began. | Fitting into the roles that they had assumed before departing the Kitty Hawk, the party began to make their way towards the local village of Kondalka Village, which seemed to be the only moderate sized sign of civilization in the immediate vicinity. Along the way they encountered a crashed wagon, which contained a chest of books as well as some gold and precious gems. As there were no signs of the owners, John Linskens decided to study some of the books in the hopes of getting a glimpse into the culture and language of the place. | | Fitting into the roles that they had assumed before departing the Kitty Hawk, the party began to make their way towards the local village of Kondalka Village, which seemed to be the only moderate sized sign of civilization in the immediate vicinity. |
| | ---- |
| | |
| Once the away team arrived at the Temple of Alazara, Bowen invited them to bathe and then join her for evening supper.
| |
| | |
| This gave the away team a much needed opportunity to discuss the situation that they were in and to attempt to develop a plan of action. It had by now become apparent that the rumors that they had heard of the Anointed of Alazara, seemed too closely to mimic the descriptions of Eva Straton.
| |
| | |
| With the likelihood of the Anointed and Eva being one of the same, the question became one of restricting damage done to the Iradonian culture and attempting to do so while preventing any further violations of the Prime Directive.
| |
| | |
| With only a supposition to work with it was decided that the team needed additional information and that they would attempt to acquire it from Bowen during the evening meal.
| |
| | |
| Once their baths were completed, the away team joined Bowen in the dining hall of the temple. They were treated well, with those members of the away team that were posing as leaders of the team seated at the table while the others attended them.
| |
| | |
| Jennifer Caskie, Susan Rivers, Matthew McLaren and John Linskens were all seated at the table. It had been decided ahead of time that Jennifer Caskie would be portraying the leader of the team to avoid endangering the security of the true leader of the team Susan Rivers.
| |
| | |
| During the meeting stories of the Anointed were discussed, and it quickly became apparent that there was no longer any doubt that Eva Straton and the Anointed of Alazara, were one and the same person.
| |
| | |
| Looking for a clue to unravel the planet's origins and discovering that the temple was the oldest of it's kind on the planet, Matthew McLaren requested, and was surprisingly granted access to the temple's Altar. he would be allowed to inspect it the following morning. He was able to convince Bowen that he was a scholar interested in studying ancient artifacts.
| |
| | |
| All their hard work was nearly lost however, when Bowen noticed that three of the members of the away team were not drinking any of their Ale. With the exception of Matthew, they had decided to minimize their consumption, which was interpreted as an insult. Fortunately, the situation was explained and rectified.
| |
| | |
| Among the things revealed at the dinner was that Bowen was able to determine that John Linskens was having mental problems. She revealed that she had some ability to ready auras as well as a limited empathic ability. It was also determined that this was not something that she was born with, as only male members of the species possess telepathic abilities. Instead, the powers were derived from the Goddess. Later Matthew determined that it was an Iconian device that enhanced the normally very weak telepathic abilities in the Iradonian women.
| |
| | |
| ==At the Altar== | |
| | |
|
| |
| | |
| the following morning after breakfast with Bowen and some of the other members of the away team, Matthew was led ionto the inner sanctum of the temple where he was allowed to study the room and the altar directly.
| |
| | |
| After almost twenty minutes of study, Matthew noticed a single set of patterns on the floor of the chamber which were significantly altered from the rest of the architecture. focusing his attntions there, he deduced that the lines were in fact a mathematical series denoting musical or soundwave tones. Using a heavily modified commbadge he was able to recreate those tones.
| |
| | |
| At first nothing happened and Matthew was seized by some temple guards, but when a sound and a bright blue light emanated from the altar, the guards and Bowen fell prone, allowing Matthew the opportunity to investigate the alter more closely.
| |
| | |
| McLaren had discovered a secret compartment in the Altar of the temple which could only be opened through the use of specific coded sound waves. Within the hidden compartment was a device of Iconian origin. The discovery of the device was a significant clue to some of the more technical aspects of the away team's problems on the planet, specifically those centered around their malfunctioning equipment.
| |
| | |
| Matthew was able to determine that the artifact was capable of enhancing the telepathic powers of any telepaths in the area, including Eva Straton as well as extend their relative range. The device also acted as a sort of Phase Variant Modulator which allowed the equipment carried by the away team to work within a very close proximity to the device.
| |
| | |
| This information later allowed McLaren to modify the systems of the Danube Class Runabout Rameses to work within the quantum field of the planet Iradon.
| |
| | |
| ==On the Trail of the Anointed==
| |
| | |
| While the away team was working hard to locate Eva Straton, Aleksander 'Sasha' Stolev was beginning to experienced a state of shared dreams with the missing Marine Colonel. Most likely this occurrence was a direct result of the telepathic link that they shared as Imzadi. It did however allow both Sasha and Eva to become aware of the presence of the other. Although Stolev had very little ability to influence the setting of the dream sequences, he was able to convey information to Eva through that medium.
| |
| | |
| It was this information that caused Eva to begin to doubt her calling as the anointed and set out to find Stolev and the others.

| |
| On the second day after leaving the village, Matthew McLaren devised an experiment that proved that the problem with their technology was related to the quantum state of the planet Iradon.
| |
| | |
| With the permission of Susan Rivers, McLaren, Moctatso, and Linskens took horses and headed back towards the Rameses.
| |
| | |
| The following day the rest of the away team, accompanied by Bowen's escort were attacked and captured on the roadway by troops loyal to the Duke.
| |
| | |
| A series of questioned and remained imprisoned for a few days.
| |
| | |
| ==The Raid and Arania==
| |
| | |
| On the way back to the shuttle craft, Matthew and the others encountered a raid underway. Members of the Duke's forces were systematically attacking a small village and driving the inhabitants out of their homes or murdering them.
| |
| | |
| Among them was Arania a relatively low-ranking member of the local temple of Alazara. matthew noticed her leaving the village while being pursued by some of the raiders.
| |
| | |
| In a misplaced sense of duty, he rode down into the village, despite warnings from Linskens and Moctatso. He quickly overtook the raiders chasing Arania, but not before they had injured her.
| |
| | |
| Matthew came to her rescue, dispatching the two soldiers and preventing their plans to kill her. She fell unconscious from her injuries and Matthew loathe to leave her, managed to get her on the horse and brought her along.
| |
| | |
| It was originally his plan to release her when she had recovered, but there was a strong attraction between them and once they had managed to establish communications, it was apparent that they had fallen in love.
| |
| | |
| == Repairing the Rameses==
| |
|
| |
| Arania proved to be a helpful companion to the men as they worked hard to repair the Runabout. Now that she had witnessed the advanced technology, there was little reason to send her away. She hunted and gathered local foods for their consumption. Her contributions allowed the team to work nearly non-stop.
| |
| | |
| John Linskens worked hard to perform the complex calculations necessary to allow McLaren to recalibrate critical systems. Matthew was assisted by Moctatso.
| |
| | |
| On the third day, Skeel became irrational. He lost all semblance of reason and attacked Arania. When Matthew intervened, the man then shifted his attentions to the engineer. Twice the Operations Officer attempted to brain him with a club. Finally forced to defend himself, Matthew struck the man. Skeel fell onto a broken branch which had been sheared during the crash. He died when the shaft of wood pierced his lung. unable to render sufficient first aid, Matthew and John buried him on Iradon at the crash site.
| |
| | |
| later that night the two managed to complete the make-shift patchwork on the shuttle craft enough to get it operation. They then took off, taking Arania along with them, to recover the away team in the hopes that they could then locate Eva straton and use the transporters to capture her.
| |
| | |
| They did not know that the away team had been captured and that things were about to get very interesting.
| |
| | |
| ==Two Rescues==
| |
| | |
| During the interrogation and capture of the away team, Eva began to feel a sense of dread coming from Sasha. This led her to depart with a small squad of holy warriors and seek out the mysterious man in her dreams.
| |
| | |
| Her quest led her to the camp of the Duke, where Stolev and the others were being held. Never one to avoid conflict, Eva led an attack.
| |
| | |
| In the confusion, members of the away team escaped from the camp, only to have Eva and her warriors surround them in a small clearing a few thousand feet away.
| |
| | |
| Eva watched as her guard attacked in an attempt to capture Stolev. A general melee ensued, just as the Rameses piloted by Matthew McLaren arrived.
| |
| | |
| Linskens opened the hatch to the vessel and stunned Eva Straton with a well-placed shot from a modified hand phaser. Now subdued, the away team managed to recover the marine Colonel and get aboard the runabout without any further interference from Eva's guards.
| |
| | |
| once aboard, Matthew and Susan Rivers struggled to get the runabout into orbit.
| |
| | |
| ==Houston, We Have a Problem==
| |
|
| |
| | |
| In orbit, the Trivaste Worldship was rapidly approaching the planet Iradon as the quantum fields of the two began to intermingle, an Interdimensional Rift began to open, even as the runabout was attempting to lift off the planet.
| |
| | |
| Caught in a universal shift, which was causing all sorts of problems with the shuttle craft, it was decided to attempt to signal the USS Kitty Hawk by using their phasers. The runabout was blind, and because they knew that the vessel was going to fail, the crew, through desperation, began to transport off the shuttle out into open space in the hopes that the Kitty hawk would be abel to detect them.
| |
| | |
| This was a sound theory, because the time spent on the planet and with the re-calibration of the runabout's systems had caused the vessel to slightly phase out of normal space.
| |
| | |
| As the bodies rematerialized into normal space, the USS Kitty Hawk's sensors were able to detect them and they were able to then be transported aboard.
| |
| | |
| The length of time in the vacuum of space was very minimal because the transporters could only handle 2 crew at a time. However, with only Linskens remaining behind, the transporter system failed.
| |
| | |
| As a result the scientist was sucked into the Interdimensional Rift along with the runabout. Also shifted out of this universe was the planet Iradon, as well as the Trivaste Worldship.
| |
| | |
| From Iradon, only Arania remained in our universe as she had been transported aboard the Kitty Hawk along with the rest of the crew.
| |
| | |
| Shortly after the collapse of the rift, a bubble of sorts appeared carrying John Linskens. He was recovered although he suffered extensive injuries.
| |
| | |
| ==Aftermath==
| |
| | |
| Eva was diagnosed by Oggie Marsh as suffering from a chemical imbalance of the brain caused by her pregnancy which was exasperated by a form of focal amnesia brought on by a head injury suffered during the crash of her runabout.
| |
| | |
| She began to revert to her normal self over time, with treatment and was found innocent of charges concerning the willful breaking of the Prime Directive
| |
| | |
| John Linskens was transferred to Starbase Geneva due to the extensive injuries he had suffered durning the mission.
| |
| | |
| Matthew McLaren and Arania were married.
