The Rosenante has completed a 5-year survey mission in [[Sector 6309]], which is considered strategically crucial for the potential expansion of the [[United Federation of Planets]]. This mission is reminiscent of the 5-year survey missions conducted by the [[Constitution Class]] starships of the 2200's.

Mission: The Veil of the Sky
Day: 5
Stardate: 2414.04.26
Captain's Log Supplemental

After completing the survey of the damage at the refugee camp on Beta Aquillia IV, I can only be amazed at the relative lack of damage caused by the suicide bombers. Despite the fact that they hit the Sickbay and the main security checkpoint with their attacks, the casualties were relatively light.
Listen to me. Casualties were light… While this is a fact, considering the potential for destruction that could have been wrought, I still feel as if i am dehumanizing the suffering that those injured or who have lost friends and loved ones are going through.
This mission is taking a strain on us all. The constant threat of being forced to defend ourselves and the refugees fleeing the combat zones is ever-present. The presence of the Skorr are both a blessing and a curse. We can certainly use the help and man power, but their volatile nature threatens to unbalance the little order that we are struggling to maintain.
Habrii has identified his Lieutenant Alaya as the mastermind behind the bombings, but has not made any claim for the destruction of the runabout. He has decided to arrest her as a show of good will, which i think he hopes will soften my stance. What he doesn't realize is that I am unable to flex too much from my orders.
I am forced to watch the planet fall ever further into the grasp of the Veil, who want only to isolate the planet from the rest of the interstellar community. The trade agreement between them and the Federation is critical to the rebuilding of the Federation, which is still underway 5-years after the end of the Civil War.
To make matters worse, both the Romulans or the Cardassians could well be behind the support and success that the Veil has enjoyed to date. We have reasons to believe that the Cardassians are at least present. The Grisly discovery of an arm from a Cardassian bearing the insignia of a member of the Obsidian Order, as well as the discovery of a detonator believed to be the one used to destroy the runabout are compelling but hardly conclusive. residual DNA on the detonator has been identified as Cardassian, but there is a possibility that Romulans could have easily acquired and planted both the arm, as sick as that thought is, and the detonator as evidence to shift our suspicions towards the Cardassians, or that the Cardassains could truly be involved.
Why is it that these things re always characterized by layers of truth and deception? Sometimes I would much rather have a straight forward exploration mission as boring as that may be, rather than deal with these sorts of political ramifications.
Kolath is still at Atlantis station, only because my orders prohibit our participation in restoring his government or in aiding the Veil in their play for power. It is a difficult position to be stuck in. Kolath was our ally here, with years of political support, but the Veil are demanding his extradition for crimes against the people of the planet. This is complicated by the fact that they are demanding his return in exchange for a large number of Federation Citizens being held hostage. It is a tempting offer, but turning him over would shift the natural course of this conflict and violate our orders.
I have the teams doing everything they can to locate the Ambassador so we can rescue her and hopefully all the other members of her staff being held. We will have to see what happens.
The Rosenante was badly damaged during mission [[Sensory Overload]] and is now at [[Starbase 989]] for extended repairs. Part of the crew, including the new CO [[Sanok]], have been transferred to a brand new ship, the [[USS Starfire]].
