An autonomic response analysis or ARA was a Starfleet medical procedure to confirm if a person was telling the truth, in effect acting as a lie detector.

When Lieutenant Tom Paris of the USS Voyager was tried and convicted for murder in 2371, The Doctor performed an ARA on him with Tuvok present to determine if Paris was innocent. (VOY: "Ex Post Facto")

In a holographic delusion experienced by the Doctor in 2371, Captain Kathryn Janeway requested that The Doctor perform an ARA on a Kazon soldier while she questioned him. (VOY: "Projections")

Later that year Chakotay asked the Doctor to do an ARA when he questioned the Kazon Tierna again, but as there was no record on Kazon reactions no basis for comparison existed. (VOY: "Basics, Part I")
