An Interdimensional Rift is a connection between two locations in space-time that crosses the barrier between dimensions. A temporal rift is a type of spatial rift that also connects two points in time. (VOY: "Future's End") A spatial flexure is a type of spatial rift that allows spacecraft to travel vast distances. (VOY: "Q2")
Some rifts emitted high levels of neutrinos and chronitons. they can potentially produce a chronokinetic surge that can interact with its warp core and can split it into different time frames. (VOY: "Shattered")
An interdimensional rift, or an Interphasic Rift can be used to shift between universes. Such a rift was created through the use of an Interphase Generator by the USS Rosenante for force the ISS Rosenante back into the Mirror Universe.
The planet Iradon somehow produced it's own version of an interdimensional Rift, which allowed the planet to jump between universes for a short period of time between the normal universe and an alternate universe. It was unknown if the Rift was natural or if it was a result of some unknown technology. The planet was a direct colony, although their technology had reverted back to that of a preindustrial era, of the Iconians. The cycle of the rift was 1,000 standard years and was last open in 2407. It will not return to this universe until 3407.
