The ship proved to have a massive energy beam on it's base. This beam was being used to scour away the surface of the planet, meter-by-meter. As the planet was not inhabited, it was unclear at the time why the vessel was performing such an act, although it later became apparent that the vessel was conducting an archeological survey, alongside [[Borg Drone]]s on the planet's surface. The energy beam was comprised of anti-protons and gravitons.
