Dr. Toby Russell used a detronal scanner to manually scan the DNA of Worf's damaged spinal column during a surgery involving the genitronic replicator in 2368. The replicator had difficulties in reading the Klingon dorsal root ganglia, forcing the doctor to resort to the manual scan. (TNG: "Ethics")
