The Nebula Class design was intended to provide a mobile platform for a wide range of ongoing scientific and cultural research projects. Replace aging Ambassador, Oberth and Excelsior class Starships as primary instruments of Starfleet’s exploration programs. Provide autonomous capability for full execution of Federation defensive, cultural, scientific, and explorative policy in deep space or border territory. Serve as a frontline support vehicle during times of war and emergencies. Provide a mobile platform for testing and implementation of mission-specific or new technology of any kind. | The Nebula Class design was intended to provide a mobile platform for a wide range of ongoing scientific and cultural research projects. I make no secret of the fact that along with the Akira Class the Nebula Class is one of my favorites. Many people simply snub the Nebula as a cheaper Galaxy Class but I think that is hopelessly shortsighted. The interchangeable mission pod can turn this versatile class from a fighter carrier, to a hospital ship to a Battleship in just a few short days. | |||
