History, Education and Skills

Family and Background

One of four children, with two sisters and one brother. Sam is the only member of his family to have joined Starfleet.

Education

Academic Institutions Attended: Newcastle University

Pre-Starfleet History

Graduated with a respectable honours degree, entered Starfleet enlisted ranks by choice.

Starfleet History

Sam has been in Starfleet for nearly 20 years and has served on a number of vessels, making his way to the rank of Master-Chief Petty Officer before being selected to receive officer training. Hence despite his rank of Ensign(jg) he has a wealth of knowledge and experience in certain aspects of tactical and security but would be the first to admit that his experience in other areas is patchy, notably those areas that officers are trained to work in such as strategic planning, for example.

Medical History

Sam's medical history is pretty normal for his line of work. Various injuries sustained in battles and a few in training, all successfully treated and healed with no ill effects.

Skills

Holds the rank of sharp-shooter with both hand phaser and phaser rifle. Hand-to-hand combat is adequate for his rank and experience but not exceptional. Practices archery for recreation and uses a longbow with a 60 lb draw for preference.

Other Information

Archery (see Skills & Abilities). Music - Sam enjoys a wide variety of music from many federation cultures. His best "skill" is his piano-playing. He can play by ear most tunes after hearing them once or twice and is equally at home with classical or popular music and songs. His singing, however, is best listened to through ear-plugs. It's not that he sings out of tune or flat, merely that his singing voice is not a good one.
