Prior to joining [[Starfleet]], Tom worked as an [[Operations Officer|Operations Technician]] aboard the [[D'Kora Class]] Trading vessel [[Shotal]] owned and operated by his step-father [[Pez]]. Thomas spent two years under contract on that vessel. During that time, he traveled to a variety of worlds and met a large number of beings on his travels.
