The Xegans were a species that is now believed to be extinct. Their culture thrived roughly a billion years ago on the planet Xega III. The planet is located at the edge of Federation, Cardassian, Breen and Orion space.

Very little is known about the Xegans and what little bit is known has been discovered by Doctor Otto Von Toenkampf who has been undertaking an archeological survey of the Xegan ruins for the last three decades.

The Xegan civilization was wiped out during a period of increased solar activity that caused the planet to be irradiated. Most life on the otherwise nominally Class M world went extinct.

Xegan culture is divided into at least three major Dynasties, with each dynasty further subdivided into various sub periods. The Xegans are known primarily through their artifacts and the their few remaining machines, including the Balancer Device.

It is believed that they were humanoid and bipedal, and were a close resemblance to Humans.

The Xegans were first mentioned in the USS Rosenante mission: The Quandam Season
