The Darson Deep Space Array is a powerful intelligence gathering sensor array located inside Federation space. It's task is to monitor activity along the Federation - Romulan border. It is situationed within 13 Light Years of Starbase 989.
In 2414, the Array detected the presence of two Borg vessels in the Beta Quadrant en route to the Dovek System. The array was able to send detailed images to Starfleet Command which quickly identified the vessels as a Borg Tactical Cube and a Borg Pyramid.
As Dovek II was once part of the Tkon Empire and it was feared that the Borg may be attempting to locate and assimilate ancient Tkon technology, command dispatched the USS Boudicca and the USS Rosenante to investigate and interdict as needed.
The Darson Deep Space Array was first seen in the Joint USS Rosenante and USS Boudicca mission Once More Into The Breach
