Rigelian fever is a deadly recurring disease that is similar to the bubonic plague or malaria. The disease is transmitted through the respiration of infected individuals. The pathogen is very stable and has a fairly low contagious life, and an infinitesimal chance of drift.

Symptoms of the plague include High fever , vomiting, nausea, Bloody Sputum, swollen lymphatic nodes, and seizures

In 2393 the treatment for the disease was a single dose of one milligram of Ryetalyn, followed five year course of Diaspirine.

By 2408 The treatment had been refined to .25micros of ryetalyn per kilogram of the patient, times four for a week.

In 2413, advances in virology and Disease treatment saw another change in treatment to a current treatment protocol of 0.5 micrograms Ryetalyn per kilogram, 3 times in a 24 hour period. The course lasted for a 14 day period.

Lieutenant Helen Baker died as a result of an flare up of Rigelian fever, while she was imprisoned on the planet Irlix. The Irlixians were unfamiliar with the disease and were unable to reproduce the treatments.

The disease can infect Irlixians, since Sola Malinae was able to contract the disease in 2398. The disease made her very ill, but the virus was unable to get fully established. Sola suffered neural damage, but her Immune system managed to neutralize the disease to such a point that it was no longer contagious.

The immunity was passed on to her daughter Ios Malinae.

Rigelian fever was first seen in the USS Rosenante Mission: The Gilded Man
