"After encountering the Borg vessel whilst still under phased cloak, we dispached an EVA team of marines to covertly board the ship by way of a portable boarding tube, the 'Can Opener' as the Marines affectionately like to term it. The operation was a success but during their mission to incapacitate the Borg Communications array and main power systems, a small Sphere ejected in an attempt to remotely re-establish a link with the collective. I gave the order to pursue the sphere but despite our best efforts to destroy it, it seems that it may have initiated a time jump"

The situation seems to be worsening by the minute. With Trei's actions in contacting the Borg, we find ourselves thrust into a desperate situation.


==Star Trek Fans Mourn the Passing of Two Icons ==
Because of his actions, we now have an away team crashed on the Surface of Dovek II, just a few short kilometers from the object of the Borg's attention.


Often named as the First Lady of Star Trek, Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away from leukemia on December 18th, 2008 at age 76, in her Bel-Air California home.[[Image:Chapel.jpg|thumb|right|225px|Majel Barrett as Nurse Christine Chapel.]]
Never one to leave anyone behind, I've issued orders to have two away missions conducted. The first is a rescue mission led by Lieutenant Sanok. His mission is to do his very best to recover the survivors of the crashed Lorimar if possible.


Although she had other acting roles in Hollywood, Majel Barrett was most well known for playing Number One in the Star Trek pilot episode, Nurse Chapel during ST:TOS, Lawaxana Troi in ST:NGEN and the voice of the computer system on the Enterprise throughout most of its incarnations. She also played the voice of the computer again in the upcoming JJ Abrams Star Trek movie due out in May 2009 prior to her death.  
Running concurrent is the second mission, a simple asset denial mission. I have ordered Lieutenant Soma to put together a team with the intention of deploying the Antimatter mine that Lieutenant Commanders McLaren and Lorimar were working on. Time is of the essence here, since if either of these two have been assimilated, the mission may be doomed to fail before it's even begun.


Born as Majel Lee Hudec, Barrett began her acting career in the 1950's with roles on popular television shows such as ‘Leave It to Beaver,’ ‘Bonanza’ and ‘The Lucy Show.’
To help the success of the Missions, Both the Boudicca and the Rosenante will be conducting an attack run against the Borg Tactical Cube that is the biggest threat to the success of the mission. It is hoped that between the two ships we can draw off the larger ship and in so doing open a covert avenue of approach for the teams to enter the atmosphere of Dovek II undetected by the remaining Borg Pyramid.


After Gene Rodenberry’s death in 1991 at the age of 70, Barrett continued his legacy on by helping to bring to life one of his pet projects, the 1997-2002 series Earth: Final Conflict. But after his death, she had little to do with Star Trek other than a few appearances.  
If the ploy with the mine fails, I see no alternative but to bring the Rosenante and the Boudicca into a position that will allow us to bombard the target from orbit. The hope here is that once the device is destroyed, the Borg will move on as has been observed so many times in the past.


"Gene sold out all of his rights to Star Trek way back 15, almost 20 years ago," she told SciFiDimensions.com in 2000. "So, they ask nothing. I volunteer nothing. They invite me to a few of their shindigs. I'll bet you I haven't been on that lot in two years."

However, Barrett had welcomed the new remastering of TOS and the upcoming film release, choosing to see it as a validation of the late Gene Roddenberry’s vision. "What's nice is you know a Star Trek movie is still one that everybody wants," she had told The Hollywood Reporter in 2006.


Buried in Los Angeles' Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Cemetery, Barrett was laid to rest on January 4th, 2009. The funeral service was open to fans and attendees numbered approximately 300 and included fellow costars such as Walter Koenig (Chekov, TOS), Nichelle Nichols (Uhura, TOS), and George Takei (Sulu, TOS).  A handful of fans showed up in Star Trek uniforms to pay tribute to a fine woman and a believable actor.

An extraordinarily talented individual has departed from us. Ricardo Montalban passed away the morning of January 14, 2009 at the age of 88. Though the exact cause of death has not been identified, his son-in-law Gilbert Smith claims that he died from complications of advancing age.

The Mexican actor first came to Hollywood in 1943 and had a career spanning seven decades of multiple noteworthy roles including that of Mr. Roarke of Fantasy Island and as Khan Noonian Singh back in 1967 in ST:TOS which he reprised in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan in 1982.

This gifted actor’s checkered career included radio shows, Broadway musicals, television, westerns, WWII films, and voice over work in commercials.
It never ceased to amuse Dr. McCoy that Mr. Spock, with all his logical training, cannot consider Ha Rageel a close equivalent to Tufeen Hushani. Actually, to the logical Vulcan mind, a ceremonial wedding cake is quite unrelated to an "everyday" dessert loaf. It is quite true that they contain many of the same ingredients and have a somewhat similar taste. But this no more makes them related than the same number of eyes and legs makes first cousins of horses and dogs. To a cook the difference is also important. Preparing the wedding cake requires time, attention, and care to avoid a minor disaster; with Ha Rageel you can hardly go wrong.


A spinal injury occurred caused by being thrown off a horse, knocked out and then walked on by another horse, all during the filming of Across the Wide Missouri in 1951. The actor suffered terribly with pain that grew worse for the rest of his life, despite surgical procedures to attempt to correct the damage. He went from walking with a cane to delivering his lines from a wheelchair or in a sitting position during his later roles.
<strong><font color=goldenrod>Ingredients:</font></strong>


Ricardo Montalban later formed the Nosotros ("We") Foundation in 1970 to advocate Latinos in acting and the performing arts. The Foundation later created the Golden Eagle Awards, a televised annual award show that features and recognizes Latino achievements in the television and film industry. Having been himself a victim of stereotyped roles and prejudice, Montalban wished to show the world that Latinos could be exceptionally talented and gifted in the performing arts.

In 1980, Doubleday published his autobiography, Reflections: A Life in Two Worlds.

*1 1/2 c Flour
*1/2 ts Cinnamon
*1/2 ts Nutmeg

*1 ts Baking soda

Preheat the oven to 350. Grease a 2-quart ring mold with a little butter. Peel the carrots and grate them. Grate the yellow rind off the lemon, using the coarse set of teeth on your grater. Leave enough of the white inner rind so that you can squeeze the lemon for its juice when you are done grating. Cream the butter and sugar together until the mixture is somewhat light colored. Add the eggs, mix well, then add the carrots, lemon juice and rind, water and raisins. In a smaller bowl mix together the dry ingredients, exept the confectioners sugar, and add them to the liquid part a bit at a time. When it is well mixed, pour the batter into the greased mold. Bake for about 40 minutes, or until a knife or skewer stuck into it comes out clean. Let it cool for about 5 minutes, unmold on a serving plate and dust with confectioners sugar if desired.
 
Note: If you dust the plate with a little confectioners sugar before you unmold the cake onto it, the cake will tend to stick to it less.

== Starfleet Chef's Galley ==
No Summer menu would be complete without talking about a favorite dish from Everyone's favorite Desert world: Vulcan.  And while most Vulcan meals are not known for their flavors or their inclusion of animal proteins among off-worlders, there are a few well-known exceptions out there. Of these, Yorakar is one of the most widely known among those individuals favoring salads of various sorts. This dish makes a nice side or even a main dish on a hot summer's day on the holodeck and should always be enjoyed in the company of good friends.


<strong><font color=goldenrod>Ingredients:</font></strong>
*2 c Water
*1 c Cracked quadrotriticale (Bulgur cracked wheat may be substituted.)
*1 Cucumber; medium
*6 Green onions
*2 Tomatoes
*1/2 c Parsley; finely chopped
*12 Fresh mint leaves OR
*1/2 Green pepper; chopped
*1 ts Salt
*1/4 ts Pepper
*4 tb Lemon juice OR
*3 tb Wine Vinegar
*1/3 c Olive oil

Bring 2 cups water to a boil in the saucepan and slowly pour in the quadrotriticale (or bulgur) so that the water keeps on boiling. Reduce the heat and simmer with the lid on for about 10 minutes, or until the water is all absorbed. Then take off the lid and cook for a few minutes more, stirring constantly, to dry it out a bit. Spread it on the sides and bottom of a large salad bowl so it can cool more quickly and put it in the refrigerator to chill it. Meanwhile peel and dice the cucumber, discarding the seeded center part if it is not firm. Clean and slice the green onions into 1/8" pieces, including abut 3" of the green tops. Cut the core out of the tomatoes and cut them into 1/2" chunks. Wash and chop the parsley. Chop the mint or the pepper, if you are using one of them. When the wheat is cool, break it up with a fork until it is loose and there are no chunks more than 1/2" in size. Add the vegetables to it and mix, then add the salt and pepper, lemon juice (or vinegar), and the olive oil. Mix again thoroughly. Note: It is traditional to add mint or green pepper to only a part of the salad when the host is not sure of all his guests preferences.

Any Trek fan worth his or her salt (included in Starfleet emergency rations, by the way) knows that Romulan ale is one of the most widely referenced food-and-beverage items in the franchise. It's an ultrapotent blue drink that reportedly results in instant drunkeness. Science fiction often holds a mirror up to contemporary culture, critiquing its practices, politics, and mores. So, too, with Romulan ale. Because of the United Federation of Planets' standoff with the Romulan Empire, the drink is illegal within the Federation—much like Cuban cigars are in the U.S. But like the captains of industry of today, captains of starships indulge in this vice. As Kirk said in The Undiscovered Country, the routine violation of the embargo is "one of the advantages of being a thousand light years from Federation headquarters."
Its proper Romulan name may be kali-fal.

Captain's Log Supplemental

The situation seems to be worsening by the minute. With Trei's actions in contacting the Borg, we find ourselves thrust into a desperate situation.

Because of his actions, we now have an away team crashed on the Surface of Dovek II, just a few short kilometers from the object of the Borg's attention.

Never one to leave anyone behind, I've issued orders to have two away missions conducted. The first is a rescue mission led by Lieutenant Sanok. His mission is to do his very best to recover the survivors of the crashed Lorimar if possible.

Running concurrent is the second mission, a simple asset denial mission. I have ordered Lieutenant Soma to put together a team with the intention of deploying the Antimatter mine that Lieutenant Commanders McLaren and Lorimar were working on. Time is of the essence here, since if either of these two have been assimilated, the mission may be doomed to fail before it's even begun.

To help the success of the Missions, Both the Boudicca and the Rosenante will be conducting an attack run against the Borg Tactical Cube that is the biggest threat to the success of the mission. It is hoped that between the two ships we can draw off the larger ship and in so doing open a covert avenue of approach for the teams to enter the atmosphere of Dovek II undetected by the remaining Borg Pyramid.

If the ploy with the mine fails, I see no alternative but to bring the Rosenante and the Boudicca into a position that will allow us to bombard the target from orbit. The hope here is that once the device is destroyed, the Borg will move on as has been observed so many times in the past.

Allah willing, we will prevail.

Vulcan Ha Rageel

It never ceased to amuse Dr. McCoy that Mr. Spock, with all his logical training, cannot consider Ha Rageel a close equivalent to Tufeen Hushani. Actually, to the logical Vulcan mind, a ceremonial wedding cake is quite unrelated to an "everyday" dessert loaf. It is quite true that they contain many of the same ingredients and have a somewhat similar taste. But this no more makes them related than the same number of eyes and legs makes first cousins of horses and dogs. To a cook the difference is also important. Preparing the wedding cake requires time, attention, and care to avoid a minor disaster; with Ha Rageel you can hardly go wrong.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 c Carrots; grated
  • 1 Grated rind & juice of lemon
  • 1/2 c Butter
  • 1/2 c Dark brown sugar
  • 3 Eggs; large
  • 2 tb Water
  • 1 c Golden raisins
  • 1 1/2 c Flour
  • 1/2 ts Cinnamon
  • 1/2 ts Nutmeg
  • 1 ts Baking powder
  • 1 ts Baking soda
  • 1/4 ts Salt
  • Confectioners sugar

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350. Grease a 2-quart ring mold with a little butter. Peel the carrots and grate them. Grate the yellow rind off the lemon, using the coarse set of teeth on your grater. Leave enough of the white inner rind so that you can squeeze the lemon for its juice when you are done grating. Cream the butter and sugar together until the mixture is somewhat light colored. Add the eggs, mix well, then add the carrots, lemon juice and rind, water and raisins. In a smaller bowl mix together the dry ingredients, exept the confectioners sugar, and add them to the liquid part a bit at a time. When it is well mixed, pour the batter into the greased mold. Bake for about 40 minutes, or until a knife or skewer stuck into it comes out clean. Let it cool for about 5 minutes, unmold on a serving plate and dust with confectioners sugar if desired.

Note: If you dust the plate with a little confectioners sugar before you unmold the cake onto it, the cake will tend to stick to it less.

No Summer menu would be complete without talking about a favorite dish from Everyone's favorite Desert world: Vulcan. And while most Vulcan meals are not known for their flavors or their inclusion of animal proteins among off-worlders, there are a few well-known exceptions out there. Of these, Yorakar is one of the most widely known among those individuals favoring salads of various sorts. This dish makes a nice side or even a main dish on a hot summer's day on the holodeck and should always be enjoyed in the company of good friends.

Ingredients:

  • 2 c Water
  • 1 c Cracked quadrotriticale (Bulgur cracked wheat may be substituted.)
  • 1 Cucumber; medium
  • 6 Green onions
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 1/2 c Parsley; finely chopped
  • 12 Fresh mint leaves OR
  • 1/2 Green pepper; chopped
  • 1 ts Salt
  • 1/4 ts Pepper
  • 4 tb Lemon juice OR
  • 3 tb Wine Vinegar
  • 1/3 c Olive oil

Directions:

Bring 2 cups water to a boil in the saucepan and slowly pour in the quadrotriticale (or bulgur) so that the water keeps on boiling. Reduce the heat and simmer with the lid on for about 10 minutes, or until the water is all absorbed. Then take off the lid and cook for a few minutes more, stirring constantly, to dry it out a bit. Spread it on the sides and bottom of a large salad bowl so it can cool more quickly and put it in the refrigerator to chill it. Meanwhile peel and dice the cucumber, discarding the seeded center part if it is not firm. Clean and slice the green onions into 1/8" pieces, including abut 3" of the green tops. Cut the core out of the tomatoes and cut them into 1/2" chunks. Wash and chop the parsley. Chop the mint or the pepper, if you are using one of them. When the wheat is cool, break it up with a fork until it is loose and there are no chunks more than 1/2" in size. Add the vegetables to it and mix, then add the salt and pepper, lemon juice (or vinegar), and the olive oil. Mix again thoroughly. Note: It is traditional to add mint or green pepper to only a part of the salad when the host is not sure of all his guests preferences.


Romulan Ale





Romulan Ale

Any Trek fan worth his or her salt (included in Starfleet emergency rations, by the way) knows that Romulan ale is one of the most widely referenced food-and-beverage items in the franchise. It's an ultrapotent blue drink that reportedly results in instant drunkeness. Science fiction often holds a mirror up to contemporary culture, critiquing its practices, politics, and mores. So, too, with Romulan ale. Because of the United Federation of Planets' standoff with the Romulan Empire, the drink is illegal within the Federation—much like Cuban cigars are in the U.S. But like the captains of industry of today, captains of starships indulge in this vice. As Kirk said in The Undiscovered Country, the routine violation of the embargo is "one of the advantages of being a thousand light years from Federation headquarters." Its proper Romulan name may be kali-fal.

Recipes: There are several recipes out there for Earth-bound Romulan ale. The simplest involves mixing equal amounts of vodka, rum, and blue curaçao, but this one sounds a bit tastier!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz. Triple Sec
  • 1 oz. Blue Curacao
  • 4 oz. Lemonade

Directions:

Just chuck it all in a shaker with ice and give it a good couple of hard shakes. Pour into a highball glass and serve without garnish.

Enjoy.
