The city of Athens, on Earth.

Matthew was born the middle child of three to Heather Brownlee and a Vulcan man named Arev. He was born while his mother was on business in the Earth city of Athens on December 11, 2357.

After her business trip, Heather returned to the family home in ShirKahr, on Vulcan. His father, Arev, was stationed at the shipyards there. However, in 2364, he was stationed aboard the USS Hamilton (NCC-61452), and the family of now five moved on board with him. After moving around from ship to ship, Arev was stationed on the USS Utica (NCC-74361) in 2372, where he stayed until 2375. It was at this time that Matthew applied to Starfleet Academy.

Academy Life

At the Academy, Matthew majored in Tactical Strategy with a minor in Exo-linguistics. He performed very well throughout his career in the Academy, and captained many athletic teams, not the least of which the Parrises Squares team, Nova Squadron, the swimming team, among others. Through his involvement with Parrises Squares, however, he met his future wife, Nara, who was an underclassman who had joined the team.

He graduated the top of his class in 2379, and was posted at Starbase Eridani on Vulcan, where he married Nara later that same year.

Postings on Starbase Eridani, USS Vanderbilt, and Boston Shipyards

Matthew worked for the first few months on the orbital platform that was the majority of Starbase Eridani, until in early 2380, he was transferred to the surface base, in Vulcana Regar. It was in his time that his son Joran was born, and spent his first few months on the base. It was also, at that time, that Matthew first began to show interest in shipbuilding. In his off-duty time, he began to study all he could on the processes and resources that went into building a starship.

Soon after the birth of his first son, Matthew recieved a promotion, and was assigned to the USS Vanderbilt (NCC-71453) in early 2381 as Chief Tactical Officer/Chief of Security. He was stationed there until early 2382, when he was promoted again and transferred to the Boston Shipyards on Earth, where he was stationed for 16 years.

Early in his tenure at the shipyards, Christian, his second son, was born amid horrible tragedy. Due to unforseen complications with the pregnancy and birth, his mother, Nara, died in childbirth, causing Matthew to suffer a complete emotional brakdown. It was at this time, that he, having practiced Kolinahr his entire life, abandoned logic and embraced his human half completely. It was at that time that he decided to never teach his children the ways of Kolinahr.

In 2398, Matthew was promoted to the rank of Commander, and was transferred to a starship for the first time in nearly 20 years, the USS San Antonio (NCC-76432).

Psychological Profile

When one first meets Matthew, one would be shocked if he acted eccentrically, he exudes an old-fashioned, authoritative aura. Even if he feels like the life of the party, others expect him to be the picture of industriousness, the boss figure with an impeccible sense of decorum and tradition. He may intimidate others with his intense demeanor, but they look to him for order. Negatively, he can come across as pessimistic and hypercritical. However, his true nature shows him to be a truth-seeker, and the best way for him to do this is to hit the road, talk to others and get some answers. Knowledge is key to him, since it fuels his broad-minded approach to life. Matthew is keenly interested in philosophy and religion, and he found that these disciplines aided his internal quest. At the end of the day, what he wants most is to know the meaning of life, and if he accomplishes this while feeling free and easy, all the better. He is a clear thinker and chooses to look at the big picture most of the time. He also likes it when others agree with his well-thought-out point of view. The alternative to this, for better or for worse, is that he can become argumentative and blunt. That's not to say that he is intransigent -- Matthew will listen to what others have to say. However, he can also be warm, loving, and generous in his affections, he inspires tremendous devotion and loyalty in his loved ones. This is good, since he would never settle for anything less! He wants to be adored and worshipped like the king that he feels he is, and it is difficult for anyone to resist the warmth and attention he lavishes on those he cares about. He has a great deal of pride and needs to be recognized and appreciated. The way to really hurt his feelings is to ignore him. He is genuine, sincere, and has a strong sense of personal integrity. He hates emotional games and dishonesty.
