"That's a stupid question! I am the foremost expert on Vulcanoid species in this quadrant you know."
A Brief History
Jericho Nolan was born to Mildred & Sebastian Nolan, two university lecturers from New Sydney Harbour, Earth. Jericho was an only child and wanted for nothing when he was growing up. The Nolan estate is one of the largest privately owned estates still in existence on Earth, and Jericho led a very privileged life as a result.
Early Days
From a very young age, Jericho showed an aptitude for language. As such his parents always pushed him toward being a linguist. By his early teens he was familiar with almost every earth language, at least seven of them fluently. Tutored privately, Jericho received the very best his parents could afford. Experts from all over the planet were shipped in to tutor the young boy. When given the chance, Jericho opted to learn languages from other worlds, and by his late teens he was fluent in the Vulcan language. Fascinated by this language, and keen to learn more, Jericho was given a scholarship at an academy on Jaydon IV, located just a few light years from Vulcan. Whilst there he learnt many things about Vulcan culture and history, and soon an insatiable appetite for knowledge was born.
A Shift in Interest
By his early twenties, Jerrico was an avid researcher and acheologist. With a deep rooted interest in the splinter races of Vulcan, he turned his attention to those species of the Beta Quadrant, like the Romulan Star Empire. This was a difficult challenge for him, since the Star Empire was often closed to outsiders and very little in the way information left it's borders, aside from rumours carried along by traders, and of course reports submitted by starfleet intelligence. Because of this, he decided to leave the faculty that had funded most of his research so far, and go in search of answers by himself.
Traversing the Stars
Spending much of his later twenties and early thirties travelling with traders, he visited outposts and colonies of the Romulan Empire and learnt much of their culture and traditions. On his travels he also learnt of a splinter race known as the Watraii. Although much of their history is speculative and rumour, Jericho was convinced that it was based on fact. Despite learning all there is to know about this secretive splinter race of the Romulans, he has yet to ever meet one.
A Return to Civilization
In his late thirties, Jericho returned to the Alpha Quadrant, and to the Academy on Jaydon IV where he shared his findings with the rest of faculty. Soon after he set off on yet another expedition, where he spent a further five years researching the Debrune, the ancient race of Vulcans thought to have founded the Romulan Empire. As a result of all his works, he is now thought to be one of the ruling experts on Vulcanoid species through out the quadrant, although he is fairly certain that a number of Vulcan Historians would disagree.
Finally Settled
After spending much of his life dedicated to the research of Vulcanoid traditions and culture, he was asked to join the ranks of the Federation Diplomatic Division. Taking them up on their offer, and the chance to slow down and enjoy the later years of his life in comfort, he now works as an ambassador for the Federation. Although he normally spends much of his time on the Vulcan Homeworld, he has now been asked to head talks with the Romulan Praetor, and if possible to create a new era of peace between the two galactic super-powers.
Current Assignment
After being a speculative negotiator for the Federation for many years, he is finally called to duty when the Romulan Praetor expresses a desire to engage in peaceful negotiation. Along with his team of trusted advisors, Jericho has travelled to Starbase 989 where he awaits the USS Hades, a starship that is to take him and his party to the Romulan Homeworld. With a mixture of apprehension and anticipation, he prepares for what might come.
